SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in RICHARD III (See breakdown).
BIPOC actors and performers of all abilities and genders are encouraged to audition.
Shakespeare and classical experience are a plus.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief (1-minute) dramatic monologue from Shakespeare in verse and bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

RICHARD III

(A highly diverse cast with an ample array of multiple ethnicities and abilities to reflect Jersey City's strong diversity.)

  • BUCKINGHAM Male. Asian, Black, Indigenous, or Middle Eastern. (30s - 40s) Politically ambitious right-hand man of Richard III. Willing to abandon his morals and commit heinous crimes for power.
  • HASTINGS Male. Black, Hispanic, or South Asian. (40s-50s) Lord Chamberlain. Earnest and loyal supporter of King Edward and his family line. Politically naïve.
  • STANLEY Male. Asian, Indigenous, Middle Eastern, or Pacific Islander. (40s - 50s) A careful and astute politician. Stepfather to Richmond. He has survived the war and political upheaval of many years.
  • CLARENCE Male. Any Ethnicity. (50s – 60s) Brother of Richard and Edward. Racked with guilt over his crimes committed in the war. Eloquent and persuasive speaker.
  • ARCHBISHOP Male. Black, Hispanic, or South Asian. (50s – 60s) Kind, friendly, yet powerful clergyman and Chancellor of England. Ally of Queen Elizabeth.
  • RICHMOND Male. Any Ethnicity. (20s – 30s) Strong, intelligent, honest, and upright. An inspiring and charismatic leader. The future King Henry VII. Stage combat experience.
  • PRINCE EDWARD Any Ethnicity. (Any gender, 18+ to play child of 10-12). Son of Queen Elizabeth and heir to the throne. Intelligent and witty. Older than their years but still a child.
  • KING EDWARD Male. Asian, Indigenous, Middle Eastern, or Pacific Islander. (50s – 60s) The newly crowned and ailing King. Eldest brother to Richard and Clarence. Paranoid and god-fearing. He desires peace and stability after years of war.
  • LADY ANNE Female. Asian, South Asian, Black, or Hispanic. (20s – 30s) Widow to the former Prince of Wales and daughter-in-law of the newly deposed king. Intelligent, strong, and quick-witted. Stricken with grief. Vulnerable and powerless under the new regime.
  • DUCHESS OF YORK Female. Any Ethnicity. (70s – 80s) Mother to King Edward, Clarence, and Richard. She has seen and lived with the horrors of war for far too long. Hardened by grief and guilt. Though politically savvy, she is sidelined and isolated.
  • TYRELL Male. Any Ethnicity. (20s – 30s) Ruthless and hungry man willing to commit any deed for some coin. Stage combat experience.
  • CATESBY Male. Asian, South Asian, Black, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern, (20s – 40s) Ambitious follower of Richard. Remorseless, cold, and hardened. Stage combat experience.
  • PRINCESS ELIZABETH Female. Any Ethnicity. (18+ to play a child of 10-14). Jovial and witty daughter to Queen Elizabeth.
  • RIVERS Male. Asian, Black, Indigenous, or Middle Eastern. (30s-40s) Lord Anthony Rivers, newly made member of the court and protective brother to the Queen. Man of his word. Rival of Hastings.
  • GREY Male. Any Ethnicity. (20s-30s) Lord Grey, kinsman and ally to the Queen. Politically inexperienced. Escapes his enemies to side with Richmond.
  • BRAKENBURY Male. Any Ethnicity. (20s-30s) Master Lieutenant and Commander of the Tower of London. A good man, but one who keeps his head down and is content to follow orders.
  • MAYOR Male. Any Ethnicity. (50s – 60s) Lord Mayor of London. Kind but easily intimidated and subservient official.
  • NORFOLK Male. Asian, Indigenous, Middle Eastern, or Pacific Islander. (40s – 50s) Loyal follower and commander of Richard’s forces. Proud and self-assured.
