An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. North Carolina Triangle-based actors are encouraged to audition.

ANGRY, RAUCOUS, AND SHAMELESSLY GORGEOUS

STAGE MANAGER – (40-70s, any/all genders and ethnicities) Narrator, guide, and omniscient presence of the play who serves as both storyteller and participant in the world of Grover’s Corners.

MRS. WEBB – (Female-identifying character, 50-60s, any/all ethnicities) Emily’s mother and the editor’s wife. Practical, caring, and grounded. She is warm but no-nonsense, with a dry sense of humor.

BOY WILLIE – (Male-identifying character, 30s, Black) Boy Willie is charismatic, headstrong, and relentlessly driven, with a sharp sense of humor. Recently arrived from Mississippi, he is determined to sell the family’s heirloom piano in order to buy land.

MARETHA – (Female-identifying character, 10-13, Black) Berniece’s daughter. Bright, curious, and full of potential.

WINING BOY – (Male-identifying character, late 50-60s, Black) A charming, wandering musician who carries himself with flair. Older brother to Doaker. Always ready with a joke or a song.

JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN

ANNABELLA/PAMELA/MARGARET – (Female-identifying character, 40s-60s, any/all ethnicities) A mysterious, alluring foreign spy; a sharp-tongued, independent foil to Hannay; the quintessential “innocent”. A dynamic shape-shifter to embody these three distinct women.

CLOWN 2 – (Male-identifying character, any age, any/all ethnicities) A rapid succession of characters throughout the play. Imaginative and highly physical, the Clown characters live in the heightened, fast-paced style of farce.
