SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in Peterborough Players' 2026 season. See individual production breakdowns below for role descriptions and dates.

The Peterborough Players encourages actors of all ethnicities to audition for all productions. We intend to engage a diverse company for the 2026 season. PREPARATION

Prepare one or two monologues, or one monologue and 16 bars of a rock ’n’ roll song from the late 1950s / early 1960s. Maximum audition material: 2 minutes. Bring music in the correct key with cuts marked. An accompanist will only be present from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM; you may sing in the afternoon portion of the audition, but it will be a cappella or self-accompanied. The accompanist will not transpose. An Equity monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Bring a headshot and resume stapled together.

BREAKDOWN

BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY

1st Rehearsal: June 2, 2026
Open: June 17, 2026
Closes: June 28, 2026

An accompanist will only be present from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM. You may sing in the afternoon portion of the audition, but it will be a cappella or self-accompanied.

Sherlock Holmes: Any ethnicity, 40s–50s; male presenting. Highly intelligent, confident, quick-witted, obsessive. Lives to solve mysteries and discover the truth. Thinks very highly of his close friend Watson. Puckish and dry sense of humor. British dialect required.

Doctor Watson: Any ethnicity, 30s–40s; male presenting. Smart, grounded, passionate about helping people, full of heart. Full of wonder, lives to have adventures and assist his close friend Holmes. British dialect required.

Track One: Any ethnicity, 30s–40s; male presenting. Great versatility physically and vocally. Multiple roles, including Stapleton (seemingly geeky butterfly lover who conceals a psychopath within), Barrymore (mournful caretaker of Baskerville Hall), Milker (scrappy Dickensian urchin boy) and Dr. Mortimer (elegant, friendly, passionate). Multiple dialects required, including various UK dialects and Swedish.

Track Two: Any ethnicity, 20s–30s; male presenting. Great versatility physically and vocally. Multiple roles, including Sir Henry Baskerville (largest role — Texan relation to the Baskervilles, open-hearted, earnest, ready for adventure and to fall in love), Sir Hugo Baskerville (brutal, cruel Cavalier), Wilson (exuberant, hearty head of messenger office), and Inspector Lestrade (cocky police inspector). This role requires intimacy, including kissing. Fight choreography/simulated violence. Multiple dialects required, including various UK dialects, Swedish, Texan.

Track Three: Any ethnicity, 20s–30s; female presenting. Great versatility physically and vocally. Multiple roles, including Miss Stapleton (Stapleton’s initially secretive, scared “sister” who passionately falls in love with Sir Henry), Mrs. Barrymore (severe, humorless Swedish caretaker of Baskerville Hall), Mrs. Hudson (older, maternal housekeeper for Holmes). This role requires intimacy, including kissing. Fight choreography/simulated violence. Multiple dialects required, including various UK dialects and Swedish.

A DANGER TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS

Charlie: Any ethnicity; male presenting; 40s–50s. Confident, charming, persuasive con artist. Good at manipulation, but not a villain in his own mind.

Eddie: Any ethnicity; male presenting; 30s. A decent, earnest, insecure guy who overthinks things, discovers his own ability to turn the tables on Charlie and Leah. Falls into infatuation with Leah but discovers trust and intimacy with Mara. This role requires intimacy, including kissing.

Leah: Any ethnicity; female presenting; 30s. Quick-witted, seductive, excellent con artist, fully able to improvise and manipulate Eddie.

Shelby / Trina: Any ethnicity; female presenting; late teens to early 20s. Computer genius. Less vulnerable than she looks. Fledgling con artist who poses as a vulnerable young woman looking for her birth mom, able to pivot fast to her real, savvy hacker self.

Dr. Woodle: Any ethnicity; female presenting; 40s–50s. Psychologist in training. Less of an expert than she thinks and can be easily impressed.

Mara: Female presenting; late 20s to early 30s. Guidance counselor. Fellow victim of Charlie and Leah’s scam who bonds with Eddie to take revenge. Sweet, dry sense of humor, passionate and earnest. This role requires intimacy, including kissing.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET

Closes: July 26, 2026

Elvis: White; 20s; male presenting; singer/guitar player. Elvis in his 20s at the beginning of his career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; should sound and look somewhat like Elvis without being an “impersonator.” This role requires intimacy, including kissing.

Jerry Lee Lewis: White; 20s; male presenting; singer/pianist. Rock ’n’ roll’s legendary piano prodigy. A superb piano player, able to play like Jerry Lee Lewis; fun and energetic; comic skills a plus.

Carl Perkins: White; mid 20s; male presenting; singer/guitar player (lead guitar). American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for “Blue Suede Shoes.” Able to play guitar extremely well.

Johnny Cash: White; late 20s–late 30s; male presenting; singer/guitar player. Johnny Cash at the dawn of his career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; tall; should sound and look somewhat like Johnny without being an “impersonator.”

Sam Phillips: White; mid 30s–40s; male presenting. A towering and charismatic figure in American music.

Brother Jay: White; 20s; male presenting. Bass player. Brother of Carl Perkins.

Fluke: Any ethnicity; mid 20s; male presenting. Drummer.

Dyanne: White; 20s–early 30s; female presenting. Excellent singer. Elvis’s girlfriend; assertive and ahead of her time. This role requires intimacy, including kissing.

Robert: Any ethnicity; male presenting; 50s. Rumpled academic, loosely tethered to reality. Brilliant but prone to going down bizarre rabbit holes.

Catherine: Any ethnicity (ideally should connect to Robert and Claire); female presenting; 25. Brilliant, sharp-witted, deeply vulnerable under her acerbic shell. This role requires intimacy, including kissing.

Claire: Any ethnicity (ideally should connect to Robert and Catherine); female presenting; late 20s–early 30s. Loves her sister but doesn’t understand her. Immensely practical and no-nonsense.

Hal: Any ethnicity; male presenting; late 20s. Sharp, perceptive, warm-hearted. This role requires intimacy, including kissing.

EMMA

Emma: Any ethnicity; female. Has a sunny, charming self-regard that allows her to get away with much. This role requires intimacy, including kissing. British dialect required.

Harriet Smith: Any ethnicity; female presenting; 20s. A deeply likable girl from the lower classes with a basic education. Sweet and affectionate but not very bright. This role requires intimacy, including kissing. British dialect required.

Jane Fairfax / Mrs. Bates (as needed): Any ethnicity; female presenting; 20s–30s. Jane is an overachiever: composed, beautiful, discreet, accomplished, smart. Mrs. Bates is an elderly lady. British dialect required.

Mrs. Elton / et al: Any ethnicity; female presenting; 20s–30s. Mrs. Elton is delighted by everything, has an active libido, and an extreme laugh. British dialect required.

Miss Bates / et al: Any ethnicity; female presenting; 45–55. Headmistress of a struggling school for girls. Incredibly good-natured and verbose. Very proud of her niece Jane Fairfax. British dialect required.

Mrs. Anne Weston / et al: Any ethnicity; female presenting; 35–45. Emma’s former governess. Smart, perceptive, grounded, and able to teach deep lessons. British dialect required.

George Knightley: Any ethnicity; male presenting; 30s–40s. Handsome and charming, upright and clever. Preoccupied with Emma. This role requires intimacy, including kissing. British dialect required.

Frank Churchill / Robert Martin: Any ethnicity; male presenting; 20s–30s. Frank Churchill is charming, mischievous, and irresistible. Robert Martin is a sweet groundskeeper in love with Harriet. These roles require intimacy, including kissing. British dialect required.
