SEEKING

Equity actors for the role of PIPPIN in PIPPIN (See EXPECTED TO ATTEND: breakdown). Stuart Meltzer, Artistic Director and director of PIPPIN; Jeff Hess, pianist and Music Director of PIPPIN.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a 32-bar cut of a standard, music theater, or pop song as well as two contrasting contemporary monologues reflecting range, language, and vulnerability. Please bring two copies of your headshot/resume. Each candidate will have 5 minutes.

PIPPIN

SYNOPSIS: Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power.

SEEKING:

Pippin: a young man longing to find his purpose in life. The character grows up in the course of the story, he starts in his late teens and ends in his early twenties. Naive, innocent, discontent. We strongly encourage male/male-identifying people of color to audition for this role. Vocal Range Top: Ab4, Bottom: G2.

Leading Player: Masterfully charming and manipulative, a chameleon. Any gender. Any race/ethnicity. Vocal Range Top: Ab4, Bottom: Db3.
Charles: Pippin’s demanding father. King of the Holy Roman Empire (Charlemagne). A man in his fifties. Any race/ethnicity. Vocal Range Top: E4, Bottom: G2.
Lewis: Pippin’s half brother. A young man. Any race/ethnicity.
Fastrada: Pippin’s conniving stepmother. A seductress. A woman between 35 and 45. Any race/ethnicity. Vocal Range Top: F5, Bottom: A3.
Berthe: Pippin’s grandmother, brassy and full of wisdom. A woman in her sixties. Will double as other roles. Any race/ethnicity. Vocal Range Top: C5, Bottom: E3.
Catherine: A widow and mother. Falls in love with Pippin. A woman, 35. Any race/ethnicity. Vocal Range Top: Db5, Bottom: F#3.
