FARRAGUT NORTH

Author: Beau Willimon. Director: Clay Hopper

Performance Space:

1st rehearsal: 4/5/11. Runs: 4/27 – 5/22/11, on the Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab

Synopsis:

Stephen is a wunderkind press secretary who has built a career that men twice his age would envy. During a tight presidential primary race, however, Stephen's meteoric rise falls prey to the backroom politics of more seasoned operatives, and his one night stand with a teenage staffer proves to be more complicated than casual.

Stephen Bellamy:

25, Press secretary for presidential candidate Governor Morris

Paul Zara:

Late 40s, campaign manager for Governor Morris

Molly:

19, an intern on the Morris Campaign

Ben:

Early 20s, deputy press secretary for the Morris Campaign

Tom Duffy:

Late 40s–early 50s, campaign manager for the rival Pullman campaign

Ida Horowicz:

Mid 30s, a traveling political reporter for The New Yorker

Frank:

A reporter for the Los Angeles Times

Waiter: (Can be played by the same actor who plays Frank)

OPUS

Synopsis:

A singing group, the Lazara Quartet, who is the subject of a documentary. The quartet is at the top of their field, but is suddenly in need of a fourth member because one musician, Dorian, has recently been fired. Dorian is a complex mix between a deranged man who needs medication to keep himself normal and a musical genius who can do things with stringed instruments that his companions simply cannot understand. Dorian and his homosexual lover Elliot, who is also a member of the quartet, have frequent outbursts and it seems that their issues have slowed the quartet’s progress to the point that Dorian must ultimately be fired when he steals an expensive Lazara Violin that was given to the group and is played by Elliot. Alan and the other members take on the task of finding a replacement, but have difficulty finding just the right person with the appropriate talent.

Elliot:

40s, First Violin, a very strong personality and can come off as abrasive because he is passionate about his art.

Alan:

40s, Second Violin, recently divorced, he is the more grounded member of the group. His flirtations with Grace may cause the group to collapse again.

Dorian:

40s. Viola, a former member of the Quartet, he was removed from the group because of his unpredictable actions. Though his ear for music is unmatched within the group.

Carl:

40s, Cello, struggling with health issues, Carl is the stable force that keeps the group moving forward in times of argument.

Grace:

25, Viola, fresh out of school with hope and optimism about her career choice.

WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION

Greta:

Typist to Sir Wilfred, an adenoidal girl with a good opinion of herself.

Carter:

Sir Wilfred’s chief clerk, a punctual and diligent worker.

Mr. Mayhew:

A typical middle-aged solicitor, shrewd and rather dry and precise in manor.

Leonard Vole:

A likeable, friendly young man, about twenty- seven, he is being accused for the murder of Miss French.

Sir Wilfred Robarts:

A solicitor hired by Leonard Vole to defend him in his case. A very intelligent and well spoken man.

Inspector Hearne:

The arresting officer of Leonard Vole, lead detective in the case against him.

Plain-Clothes Detective:

Inspector Hearne’s partner.

Romaine:

She is a foreign woman from Germany, married to Leonard Vole, she has a great personality, but very quiet. Her voice has a strangely ironic inflection.

Mr. Myers:

Prosecution lawyer against Leonard Vole. With his strange Mannerisms,

Dr. Wyatt: – A police surgeon

Janet Mackenzie:

House keeper to Miss Emily French, in her Forties.

Mr.Clegg:

A laboratory assistant

The Other Woman:

A mysterious Strawberry Blonde woman.

The following is a list of the season musicals. Please note that Olney Theatre Center participated in the 2010 DC Area Liaison Musical/Dramatic EPAs, at which actors had the opportunity to audition for both the plays and the musicals in the season. Several roles still remain available.

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT

Lyrics: Tim Rice. Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber. Director: David Hilder

1st rehearsal: 2/1/11. Runs: 2/23 – 3/20/11 on the Main Stage

Seeking:

Narrator:

NARRATOR - The Narrator tells the story through word and song, guiding the audience gently through the story of Joseph and his brothers.

Jacob/Potiphar:

1 actor to play both roles. Jacob: The father of twelve sons, Jacob definitely favors Joseph. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognizes the future and the calling of Joseph, thus saving the House of Israel. Potipher: A powerful and rich Egyptian, Potiphar purchases Joseph and puts him to work in his household

Joseph:

Obviously his father’s favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven.

Pharoah:

The most powerful man in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god on earth.

GREASE

Lyrics: Tim Rice. Music: Jim Jacobs. Director: TBA. Choreographer: TBA. Musical Director: TBA

1st rehearsal: 7/5/11. Runs: 7/27 – 8/21/11 on the Main Stage

Danny Zuko:

Handsome, cocky leader of the Burger Palace Boys (later, the T-Birds). Falls in love with Sandy Dumbrowski over the holidays.

Sandy Dumbrowski:

New in town, a wholesome, pure, kind, and innocent girl. Originally planned on going to a Catholic school, but changed plans and went to Rydell High. She is a goody-goody who does not drink, smoke, swear, or rat her hair, and is teased about it by the Pink Ladies. Falls in love with Danny Zuko over the holidays.

Betty Rizzo:

Tough and sarcastic leader of the Pink Ladies; does not like to hang out with Sandy because she is not tough enough. Smokes, drinks, and does not care what others think of her.

Frenchy:

Fun-loving and foolish but very friendly member of the Pink Ladies; dropped out of high school to enter Beauty School; a little light-headed and in her own world and somewhat dumb. Cares a lot about her appearance.

Marty:

Most attractive member of the Pink Ladies; tries to act sophisticated. She likes older guys.

Teen Angel:

Guardian Angel from above that tries to guide Frenchy when she drops out of beauty school.

Vince Fontaine:

An egotistical, slimy radio disk jockey trying to relive his teenage years.

Doody:

The youngest member of the Burger Palace Boys (later, the T-Birds); generally foolish, and gullible.

Jan:

Funny, loud, overweight, and awkward member of the Pink Ladies.

Kenickie Murdock:

The tough and rude second-in-command of the Burger Palace Boys (later, the T-Birds).

Dominic “Sonny” La Tierri:

An obnoxious yet tricky member of the Burger Palace Boys (later, the T-Birds); funny Italian-American; “Wise Guy” of the Burger Palace Boys.

Roger:

A jolly prankster member of the Burger Palace Boys (later, the T-Birds); loves “putting people on”; loves Jan.

Eugene Florczyk:

A silly, pompous but gullible nerd.

Johnny Casino:

All-American, rock-star student at Rydell High, whose real name is Clarence (may be under a chorus contract)

Miss Lynch:

A loud, no-nonsense, serious, English teacher.

Patty Simcox:

A pretty, peppy, cheerleader; loud and overexcited; a bit of a pain and unpopular with the Pink Ladies; nominated for Student council.

Maria Rainer:

A Postulant at Nonnberg Abbey - young, free spirited, warm, gentle and kind with much determination

Mother Abbess:

Motherly, understanding, strong and authoritative, but kind

Captian Georg Von Trapp:

A retired Austrian Naval Captain. Polished and gentle, yet very military in the way he runs his life to repress his sadness over the death of his wife; underneath, he is warm, understanding, and determined

Franz The Butler:

The Von Trapp Butler, rather formal but not without spirit, he is very German and loyal to the Fascist cause

Frau Schmidt:

The housekeeper, stoic, very little personality; she does her job efficiently but without affection; strong and somewhat dominating

Liesl:

The oldest child (16 years old), blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge to her, and cares very deeply for her younger siblings.

Friedrich:

(14 years old) very tough exterior

Louisa:

(13 years old) rebellious attitude

Kurt:

(10 years old) Falsetto

Marta:

(7 years old) the second youngest child

Gretl:

(6 years old) the youngest of the children

Rolf Gruber:

Suitor to Liesl, telegram delivery boy, later Nazi soldier. A very pleasant young man, somewhat aggressive but in a gentle way.

Elsa Schraeder:

A Baroness of taste and elegance, sophisticated, dignified and mature

Max Detweiler:

Charming and vital; a man of sophistication who enjoys the good life; true and loyal friend to the Von Trapp Family

Herr Zeller:

Stern and unsmiling, a typical Nazi official whose primary concern is to see that everyone tows the line

Admiral Von Schreiber:

A naval admiral sent to give Georg his commission.
