[OTIS WILLIAMS] Male-Presenting, 30s–40s, Black. Founder and last surviving original member of The Temptations. Never the flashiest performer, but always the rock of the group. A stand-up guy, tough, with a big heart and deep conscience. Baritone; strong dancer.

[DAVID RUFFIN] Male-Presenting, 20s–30s, Black. Lead singer of The Temptations after Al, helped take the group to the top of the charts. As electric on stage as “lightning in a bottle.” Maybe the most charismatic front man in pop music history. Doubles as Guard. Lead tenor; strong dancer.

[MELVIN FRANKLIN] Male-Presenting, 20s–30s, Black. Loved his Mama. The bass of the group and one of the first members Otis recruited. Nicknamed “Blue” because of his fondness for the color, Melvin was incredibly loyal to the group and, particularly, Otis. Bass; strong dancer.

[EDDIE KENDRICKS] Male-Presenting, 20s–30s, Black. Friends with Paul since elementary school, Eddie created most of the group’s vocal arrangements and served as wardrobe manager. Outspoken. Loved cornbread so much, they nicknamed him “Corn.” Strong falsetto; strong dancer.

[PAUL WILLIAMS] Male-Presenting, 20s–30s, Black. No relation to Otis, Paul was one of the founding members of The Temptations and the group’s resident choreographer. Well-liked and kind, but unable to cope with his own demons. Baritone; strong dancer.

[HORACE VANDERGELDER] Male-Presenting, 50s–60s, Any Ethnicity. The proprietor of a Hay & Feed store and a client of Dolly. A well-known half-a-millionaire, he’s a widower, gruff, set in his ways, and authoritative. Baritone.

[CORNELIUS HACKL] Male-Presenting, 30s, Any Ethnicity. Vandergelder’s chief clerk who yearns for one exciting day in NYC. Energetic, enthusiastic, and adventurous, he has a sweet innocence about him. He seeks the company of Irene. Tenor with robust sound.

[IRENE MOLLOY] Female-Presenting, 30s, Any Ethnicity. A widow, she’s a beautiful, smart, fun-loving milliner with a hat shop in NYC. Dolly has introduced her to Vandergelder, but she yearns for romance. Soprano.

[BARNABY TUCKER] Male-Presenting, 20s, Any Ethnicity. An assistant to Cornelius at Vandergelder’s Hay & Feed store. He’s sweet, naïve, energized, and a follower. Strong dancer. Baritone.

Naturally animated and physically expressive, he is never at a loss for confidence or theatricality, even when things are falling apart. [LEO BLOOM] Male-Presenting, 30s–40s, Any Ethnicity. A timid, anxiety-ridden accountant whose orderly world is turned upside down when he partners with Max. Intelligent, deeply earnest, and endearing, Leo begins the show mousy and risk-averse, gradually transforming into a confident and adventurous producer. His journey is the emotional heart of the musical. Strong comedic timing with grounded sincerity. Baritone.

[FRANZ LIEBKIND] Male-Presenting, 30s–50s, Any Ethnicity. A fervently patriotic (and deeply unhinged) German playwright and author of Springtime for Hitler. Franz is imposing, obsessive, and intense, yet oddly tender and childlike in his devotion to his beliefs—and to his beloved pigeon, Adolph. Baritone.

[ROGER DEBRIS] Male-Presenting, 40s–60s, Any Ethnicity. New York’s most flamboyant and self-important stage director. Roger is a walking explosion of ego, camp, and theatrical excess, surrounding himself with beauty, couture, and constant admiration. Larger-than-life and impossible to miss, he revels in his own drama and authority. Baritone.

[CARMEN GHIA] Male-Presenting, 20s–30s, Any Ethnicity. Roger DeBris’s impeccably groomed, fiercely loyal assistant and romantic partner. Carmen is severe, intense, and unwavering in his devotion to Roger, treating every task—no matter how trivial—as a matter of life and death. Tenor.

[ULLA INGA HANSEN BENSON YONSEN TALLEN-HALLEN SVADEN-SVANSON] Female-Presenting, 20s–30s, Any Ethnicity. The gorgeous knockout secretary. An optimistic Swedish actress and aspiring performer who becomes Leo’s love interest. Though her enthusiasm far outweighs her technical skill, Ulla is joyful, open-hearted, and utterly unapologetic. A comedic ingénue with surprising warmth and sincerity beneath the absurdity. Requires a strong singing voice, solid dance ability, and bold comedic confidence. Mezzo-soprano.

[JACK] Male-Presenting, early 20s, Any Ethnicity. He is tough, and he's got an attitude. Also scared and lost but he can't show it. The best thing in him is his love for Diane but he tries to tough it up.

[DIANE] Female-Presenting, early 20s, Latine. It has been a hard life, but she takes her joy where she can find it. She’s tough, but neither bitchy nor sarcastic. When she cuts, it's with words like knives. It's not pretend. Neither is her love for Jack.

[SERGIO] Male-Presenting, late 40s, Latine. Diane's father. A bit larger than life. Sure of himself, but haunted by the dreams he once had. He knows his time is limited so he doesn’t mince words. His life force is still vigorous.

[MARIA] Female-Presenting, mid 40s, Latine. Diane's mother who is direct and strong and unsentimental. She knows her worth, even if she lives in a world that won’t recognize her. She loves her family fiercely and will do anything to keep them safe.

[SEAN] Male-Presenting, 50s–early 60s, Any Ethnicity. Jack’s loving father, but tough as money. Absolutely sure (on the surface) that he's always right.

Beneath her cool authority lies a playful wit and deep understanding of children and human nature. Requires a strong British accent and strong dance ability. Mezzo-soprano.

[BERT] Male-Presenting, 30s, Any Ethnicity. A warm, charismatic everyman with an inexplicable number of professions—match seller, pavement artist, chimney sweep, and musician. Bert is Mary Poppins’ confidant and the audience’s guide through Cherry Tree Lane, always watching over the children with humor and heart. Charming, optimistic, and grounded, he brings joy wherever he goes. A true song-and-dance performer with excellent tap skills required. Cockney accent. Baritone.

[GEORGE BANKS] Male-Presenting, 40s, Any Ethnicity. A disciplined senior bank clerk who believes order and propriety are the keys to happiness. George rules his household with rigid expectations, convinced he had the perfect upbringing, yet his emotional armor conceals a deeply sensitive soul. Absent-minded, set in his ways, and often disconnected from his children, his journey toward joy and connection is central to the story. Baritone.

[WINIFRED BANKS] Female-Presenting, 40s, Any Ethnicity. A loving but perpetually distracted mother, struggling to balance societal expectations, devotion to her husband, and care for her children. Winifred is overwhelmed by the pressure to be everything at once and quietly questions her own worth and fulfillment. Warm, human, and emotionally nuanced. Mezzo-soprano.

[JANE BANKS] Female-Presenting, 11. A bright, attractive, and spirited child. Jane is exuberant, strong-willed, and occasionally snobbish, with a natural sense of leadership. She longs for independence and excitement beyond her rigid household.

[MICHAEL BANKS] Male-Presenting, 9. Cute, cheeky, and excitable, Michael is mischievous and adventurous. He idolizes his father and tries to emulate him, often with hilarious results. Energetic and impulsive, with a big heart.

[MRS. BRILL] Female-Presenting, 50s, Any Ethnicity. The long-suffering housekeeper of the Banks household. Loud, blunt, and perpetually complaining about being understaffed, Mrs. Brill’s intimidating exterior barely masks a deeply caring nature. Big, harried, and prone to barking rather than speaking. [MISS ANDREW] Female-Presenting, 40s–50s, Any Ethnicity. George Banks’s former nanny—an overbearing disciplinarian with a booming voice and terrifying authority. Grim-mouthed, sharp-eyed, and utterly convinced that her way is the only way, Miss Andrew is a bully masquerading as a moral authority. Larger-than-life comedic villain energy. Mezzo-soprano.

[ROBERTSON AY] Male-Presenting, early 20s, Any Ethnicity. The sleepy, ineffectual house boy to the Banks family. Lazy, perpetually confused, and resigned to his own incompetence, Robertson Ay believes himself to be useless—and behaves accordingly. Dry, understated comedic timing essential. Tenor.

[THE BIRDWOMAN] Female-Presenting, 50s+, Any Ethnicity. A quiet, haunting presence wrapped in layers of worn shawls, her pockets filled with crumbs for the birds. Gentle, weathered, and deeply moving, she embodies compassion and the unseen beauty of kindness. Sings “Feed the Birds.” Mezzo-soprano.

[ADMIRAL BOOM / BANK CHAIRMAN] Male-Presenting, 50s–60s, Any Ethnicity. ADMIRAL BOOM: A retired naval officer with a booming voice and commanding physical presence. Speaks in navy jargon and delights in ceremony and explosions. BANK CHAIRMAN: A stiff, humorless Edwardian authority figure and head of the bank, representing order and conformity. Baritone.
