Breakdown
OTHER DESERT CITIES (Broadway)
SEEKING:
UNDERSTUDY BOTH POLLY & SILDA:
POLLY: White, female, 60s, Jewish. A sharp, elegant former actress turned politically connected matriarch, Polly is fiercely protective of her family’s reputation and emotional survival. Beneath her composed and witty exterior lies a woman haunted by grief and determined to keep painful truths buried.
SILDA: White, female, 60s, Jewish. Polly’s sister, Silda is a recovering alcoholic who lives with the Wyeths after years of instability. Funny, vulnerable, and deeply compassionate, she often serves as the bridge between Brooke and the rest of the family.
UNDERSTUDY LYMAN:
LYMAN: White, male, Late 60s-Early 70s. Polly’s husband and a former Republican ambassador, Lyman is charismatic, diplomatic, and accustomed to navigating conflict with charm. Though often more gentle than his wife, he ultimately shares her instinct to preserve the family narrative at any cost.
UNDERSTUDY BROOKE:
BROOKE: White, female, Early 40s. The eldest daughter and a novelist recovering from depression, Brooke returns home carrying unresolved trauma tied to her brother’s death. Intelligent and emotionally raw, she is driven by a need to confront the past even when it threatens to destroy her family relationships.
UNDERSTUDY TRIP:
TRIP: White, male, Early 30s. Brooke’s younger brother works as a producer for a sensationalist television show and uses humor to deflect tension. Easygoing on the surface, Trip is more perceptive and emotionally grounded than he first appears.
ALREADY CAST:
Polly: Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Silda: Allison Janney
Lyman: Ed Harris
Brooke: Lily Rabe
Trip: Joe Keery
