SEEKING
[MARY] — Black, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. Any gender. 30s–50s. A frustrated soul.
[MARY’S HUSBAND] — Black, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. Male-identified or non-binary. 30s–50s. A vain and tortured man under a great deal of pressure. Obsessed with appearances and order, he also craves peace and quiet, even if he clings to it with a white-knuckle grip. Despite this craving for peace (or maybe because of it), he does have a short fuse and is easily and suddenly angered.
[MARY’S TEACHER] — Black, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. Male-identified or non-binary. 30s–40s. A sensitive, self-conscious romantic and a man of many skills. Handsome. Most of the time he is quite shy and unsure of himself, but when it comes to going after the one he loves, something comes over him and he is able to shed his self-doubt and hold passionately to the object of his desire.
[MARY’S CHAPERONE / BILL] — Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. Female-identified or non-binary. 30s–50s. Will double the roles of Mary’s Chaperone and Bill. Mary’s Chaperone is the ideal politician’s wife and she knows it: she reveres power and status, with the smug poise and charm of someone who knows they’re better than you, always watching for opportunities to climb higher on the social ladder. Bill is a street-wise, no-nonsense bartender with a tough exterior but soft and sentimental at heart.
[MARY’S HUSBAND’S ASSISTANT / KYLE] — Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. Male-identified or non-binary. 20s–40s. Mary’s Husband’s Assistant: an excellent piano player. Abraham’s right-hand man. Dry. All business. He is the definition of patriotic loyalty. His militaristic stoicism is a facade hiding the fact that he ultimately is not very bright and that he holds a secret devotion. Kyle: a regular at a local Washington, DC saloon. A skilled piano player.
[SKIRTS TRACK UNDERSTUDY] — Female-identified or non-binary. Black, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. 30s–50s. The actor will understudy Mary’s Chaperone/Bill and Mary.
[PANTS TRACK UNDERSTUDY] — Male-identified or non-binary. Black, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. 20s–40s. Will understudy Mary’s Husband, Mary’s Teacher, and Mary’s Husband’s Assistant/Kyle.
[PIANO-PLAYING PANTS TRACK UNDERSTUDY] — Male-identified or non-binary. Black, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, White. 20s–40s. Will understudy Mary’s Husband’s Assistant/Kyle, Mary’s Teacher, and Mary’s Husband. A skilled piano player.
