SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in Nashville Children's Theatre 2025-2026 Season (see breakdown). No roles will be understudied. Local Nashville, TN actors are encouraged to audition. The Producer shall not discriminate against any actor because of race, color, creed, age, disability, national origin, sex, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation or political persuasion or belief.

PREPARATION

Prepare two contrasting monologues together totaling no more than (3) three minutes. To be considered for any musicals, please additionally prepare 16 bars of a show tune with sheet music to supply to our accompanist in the desired key and include the 16 bars within your (3) three minute audition time. Please make sure to bring your book in case you are asked to sing an additional song. Please bring a current headshot and resume. If you play a musical instrument, please bring and play in addition to the monologue(s) and/or song.

TYA Premiere - Once upon a time, beneath the wide Zimbabwean sky, lived a man with two daughters—both beautiful, but with very different hearts. Based on the beloved book by John Steptoe and told in the rich tradition of African folktales, Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters is a sweeping, musical tale of kindness, inner strength, and the true test of character. Featuring vibrant new music and lyrics by Taryn Janelle and LaRell Ross of Atlanta’s Synchronicity Theatre, this new adaptation brings Steptoe’s award-winning story to life with color, rhythm, and heart. Honored with the Coretta Scott King Award and the Boston Globe – Horn Book Award, this timeless tale is a celebration of culture, family, and the beauty within.

    John/Mufaro - A jovial man who just wants the best for his family. Mufaro means Happy Man.

    Sister 1/Nyasha - Generally quiet and reserved, Nyasha is hardworking and kind. She covers for Manyara's bad behavior and is eternally supportive. Nyasha means mercy.

    Sister 2/Manyara - Loud and opinionated, Manyara dreams of bigger things while avoiding any sense of responsibility at home. Manyara means Ashamed.

It’s bedtime—but sleep can wait when imagination takes over! Two siblings transform their room into a topsy-turvy wonderland where gloves swim like fish, shirts growl like beasts, and socks groove in a closet dance party. Designed especially for our youngest theatre-goers, this playful, participatory piece invites children ages 0–5 to giggle, wiggle, and explore a world turned delightfully inside out…and backwards.

  • Brother - Adult, Male Presenting
    Brother - the older sibling, who is in charge of making sure that the room remains tidy, but oftentimes falls prey to the shenanigans of his younger sister. Puts on airs of sternness, but is a kid as well.
  • Sister - Adult, Female Presenting
    Sister - the younger sibling, who does not want to put things away and is more interested in play than going to bed. Young, fun, and excitable. Has leadership potential.

Charlotte’s Web

Some Pig. Humble. Radiant. When Wilbur is born smaller than most pigs, it’s his friendships on the Arable family’s farm that save his life in more ways than one. This classic tale weaves an intergenerational message of love, friendship and loss in this adaptation of E.B. White’s immortal masterpiece. Whether it’s Charlotte’s selfless acts of kindness or Wilbur’s journey to find belonging, it’s the ties we share with others that make life truly meaningful.

    Wilbur - a rambunctious, strongly emotional pig, the runt of the litter.

    Charlotte - a spider who befriends Wilbur. Kind, gentle but stern, a leader.

    Fern Arable - young but wise beyond her years, kind and joyful, deeply cares about justice.
  • John Arable/The Old Sheep/Spectator 2 - Adult, Male Presenting
    John Arable - Practical family man, hardworking farmer, cares about his daughter, Fern. The Old Sheep - an impatient and cantankerous farm animal.
  • Martha Arable/Goose/Spectator 1 - Adult, Female Presenting
    Martha Arable - Caring, often doting mother of Fern. Goose - Rambling farm animal who is friendly to Wilbur. Has a repetitive speech pattern.
  • Homer Zuckerman/Templeton - Adult, Male Presenting
    Homer Zuckerman - Excitable farmer, owner of Wilbur. Templeton - Selfish rat with a soft side, if there is food involved.
  • Avery/Gander/Lurvy/Dr. Dorian/Uncle - Adult role, Male Presenting
    Avery - Rambunctious brother to Fern, likes frogs. Gander - Rambling farm animal who is friendly to Wilbur. Has a repetitive speech pattern. Lurvy - caring country boy, loud, and worker/pal for Mr. Zuckerman. Dr. Dorian - easygoing doctor. Uncle - prize winning pig at the fair - very large and strong.

With a dynamic score blending pop, gospel, blues, and R&B, audiences of all ages are invited to explore themes of friendship, loyalty, and the power of thinks. Whether you're young or young at heart, Seussical promises a heartwarming experience that celebrates the unique qualities in each of us.

    The Cat in the Hat - The essence of mischief, fun, and imagination. Plays many comic minor parts throughout the story, sometimes improvising with the audience. Strong singer with strong movement skills and comic ability.
  • Horton The Elephant - Adult, Male Presenting, Baritone/Tenor
    Horton The Elephant - An elephant and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Gentle, big-hearted, appealing. He is very imaginative and believes in the world’s goodness. He is responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends.
  • Gertrude McFuzz - Adult, Female Presenting, Soprano
    Gertrude McFuzz - A bird and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Very self-conscious, shy, and nervous at first, she grows into a kind and caring protector. She is in love with Horton and does what she can to get his attention, including foolishly growing an enormous feathered tail. She is a bit naïve at times, but always is a voice of reason. Strong comic timing is a must.
  • Mayzie LaBird - Adult, Female Presenting, Mezzo-Soprano with belt
    Mayzie LaBird - A bird and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. Self-centered, selfish and vain. Makes decisions for herself but has clear regret about those decisions at times. Very strong singer/dancer.
  • Jojo - Adult, Any Gender, Mezzo-Soprano/Tenor
    Jojo - An 8-10-year-old child. JoJo is a Who and is the only child of the mayor and his wife. Wild imagination. Awkward. A loner. But is proud of, and loves their imagination. Genuine wonder.

    Mr. Mayor - The Mayor of Whoville. Exasperated parent who loves their child but doesn’t know what to do with them. Wickersham Brother - One of three monkey brothers and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. Tricksters who bully other animals in the jungle.
