In this uproarious comedy, a fifth rate theatre troupe on a bottom tier provincial tour shows us both sides of comedic calamity. A hilarious fiasco of flubbed lines and missed cues ensues onstage, compounded by romantic turmoil offstage. By the time the curtain rings down, both the set and the ingénue will be stripped to their knickers and you’ll be helpless with laughter.
PLEASE NOTE: All characters speak with British accents, and must have strong comedic skills and instincts. SEEKING:
Dotty Otley/Mrs. Clackett:
50s to early 60’s. An insecure diva, she’s the star of Nothing On, and a recognizable television personality. Still vital and vibrant, though occasionally struggling with memory lapses, she is desperately trying to hold onto her youth and is currently dating Garry, a significantly younger man. In Nothing On she plays a doddering housekeeper. Standard British accent as Dotty, cockney accent as Mrs. Clackett.
Garry Lejeune/Roger Tramplemain:
30s. He means well and believes in The Theatre. He tries to keep the show going and everyone’s morale up, but often gets extremely flustered and has trouble finishing his sentences. Garry challenges Lloyd's power, often in defense of Dotty, but always backs down. His good nature is replaced with jealously when he believes Dotty has begun carrying on with Frederick. As Roger in Nothing On, he’s a randy real estate agent and ineffectual playboy, trying to bed Vicki.
Belinda Blair/Flavia Brent:
Mid-30s to 40s. An experienced actress, she is confident, positive and reliable, with an earned sense of superiority. A goodhearted busybody who knows all the gossip about the company, she also uses information as power. She is always the glue in any company she works in, and attempts to keep the show going when it begins to unravel. As Flavia in Nothing On she plays Philip’s stylish and pampered wife who misreads circumstances and turns jealous and hostile.
