PREPARATION

Please prepare a short song of your choice that shows off your voice. A piano accompanist will be provided, but self-accompanied selections are welcome. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

EPA procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided.

SYNOPSIS

My Joy is Heavy is a deeply personal portrait of a young family yearning for connection amidst the loss of a pregnancy in rural Vermont. Surrounded by snow and wrapped in loneliness, they uncover the unexpected joys and humor that can emerge in the wake of loss.

  • ABIGAIL: CAST. She/her. Singer/songwriter/theater maker. Married to Shaun.
  • SHAUN: CAST. He/him. Singer/songwriter/theater maker. Married to Abigail.
  • MUSICIAN ONE: A strong singer who plays keyboard and accordion at a high level. Present, compassionate, enthusiastic.
  • MUSICIAN TWO: A strong singer who plays guitar and bass at a high level. Present, compassionate, enthusiastic.
  • MUSICIAN THREE: A strong singer who plays drums at a high level and has experience with live looping. Present, compassionate, enthusiastic.
  • MUSICIAN FOUR: OFFER OUT. A strong singer who plays trumpet at a high level. Present, compassionate, enthusiastic.
  • MUSICIAN FIVE: A strong singer who plays tuba and trombone at a high level. Present, compassionate, enthusiastic.
