Local Dallas actors are encouraged to attend.

All Stage managerial positions have been filled.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a short up-tempo song. An accompanist will be provided. You will also be asked to read from the script. Sides will be provided at the audition site. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

MUFARO'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS

AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN ENSEMBLE OF SINGERS & DANCERS TO PORTRAY A VARIETY OF CHARACTERS IN JOHN STEPTOE'S CLASSIC AFRICAN CINDERELLA TALE.

SEEKING:

STORYTELLER / MESSENGER / LAUGHING TREE - narrator who moves in and out of scenes and sings and informs the story with humor and understanding.

MUFARO - joyous, proud, and doting father to his two beautiful daughters. His name means happy man.

MANYARA - Mufaro's first daughter. Though beautiful outside, she is ugly of spirit, self-absorbed and lazy. Her name means ashamed.

NYASHA - Mufaro's second daughter. She is beautiful inside and out with a humble demeanor. Her kindness extends to nature and all creatures great and small. Her name means mercy.

KING / VILLAGER 1 / HUNGRY BOY / LAUGHING TREE - male with distinct personalities. The king is a magical, handsome and very wise ruler while the Villager is a humorous busybody.

OLD WOMAN / VILLAGER 2 / LAUGHING TREE - female with distinct personalities. The humorous counterpart to Villager 1, sparring with him at every turn and an Old Woman who is not what she seems.
