Synopsis:
Katha and Ryu have become allergic to their 21st-century lives. After they meet a charismatic man from a community of 1950s re-enactors, they forsake cell phones and sushi for cigarettes and Tupperware parties. In this compulsively authentic world, Katha and Ryu are surprised by what their new neighbors—and they themselves—are willing to sacrifice for happiness.
Seeking:
Katha:
Caucasian Female late 30s. An urban professional who has just suffered a miscarriage. While she is beaten down by her current situation and life-style, she is desperate to make a change. Hard-edged but relatable. Depressed but funny. In the 21st century, she is vulnerable and reliant on her husband for emotional support and a way out; in the 1950s, she has a very strong and charismatic core.
Ryu:
Japanese American Male late 30s. Katha's husband -- a Japanese-American plastic surgeon who is caring and generous. He loves his wife deeply but is growing weary of her inability to bounce back from the miscarriage. He's a wise skeptic whose love for his wife forces him to take a leap that throws him off- kilter. He is a handsome, masculine, very capable and strong man.
Dean:
Male late 30s-early 40s. Leader in 1950s community -- an incredibly charismatic and handsome man. Disarming, warm and earnest. Has an ease about him. People immediately want to invest in him. He is not unlike a great spiritual leader, on the surface. But there is considerable darkness and guilt underneath. He feels he's doing the right thing, and is hard-pressed to really take in how that may negatively affect others.
Roger / Omar:
Male late 30s. Roger -- Dean's lover -- a very likeable blue-collar type guy. He's got a sexual charisma to him that makes him a little dangerous. He's willful and passionate and pushes pretty hard to get what he wants. Seemingly simple but actually quite dark and complex. Omar -- played by Roger A very urbane, gay co-worker of Katha's in 21st century. He's power-hungry and a bit bitchy without being over the top. One gets the sense that even though he's ambitious, his own petty fascinations will get in his way of truly succeeding.
