SYNOPSIS

The songs of the pop group ABBA provide the score for this romantic comedy that contrasts the dreams and desires of a young woman about to become a bride with those of her mother, a free spirit of the ’70s who never married. Mamma Mia! takes place at a taverna on a Greek island. The cast should be quirky and offbeat; we are not seeking obvious musical theater performers. Actors who sing with a strong rock sound and move well work best in this show.

The breakdown refers to the characters as they are written in the MAMMA MIA! script and are not meant to limit the actors we are looking to cast in the roles.

SEEKING

ENSEMBLE

Strong dancers (early 20s) with a contemporary look who sing well. Some featured ensemble roles have dance specialties for which Russian split jumps and acrobatics are a plus. May play a featured ensemble role.

  • ALI (18–25) — Sophie’s friend. Impulsive and fun. Sings and dances well.
  • LISA (18–25) — Sophie’s friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic and kooky. Sings and dances well.
  • PEPPER (early to mid-20s) — Charming, loves women, always flirting. A good mover/dancer, able to do Russian split jumps. Acrobatic skills a plus. Baritone/tenor.
  • EDDIE (early to mid-20s) — Another friend of Sky’s and hotel worker. Laid-back, easygoing. A good mover/dancer. Baritone/tenor.
  • DYNAMO UNDERSTUDIES (30s–40s) — Great pop voices, comedic skills and strong movement abilities to be in the ensemble and understudy the Dynamos (Donna, Rosie, and Tanya).
  • DAD UNDERSTUDIES (30s–40s) — Great pop voices, comedic skills and strong movement abilities to be in the ensemble and understudy the Dads (Sam, Bill, and Harry).
