PREPARATION

Please prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues totaling 2 minutes or less.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

JITNEY

Breakdown

SEEKING:

JIM BECKER

Male, 50s–60s. Manager of the jitney station. Strong, proud, a stabilizing force, but carries a deep wound in his strained relationship with his son.

BOOSTER

Male, late 30s–40s. Becker’s son, recently released from prison. Intelligent, bitter, searching for redemption.

TURNBO

Male, 50s. Nosy, talkative, gossipy. Always in everyone’s business. Confrontational yet comedic. Stirs conflict, particularly with Youngblood.

YOUNGBLOOD

Male, 20s. Vietnam veteran trying to build a better life for his girlfriend and child. Hardworking, ambitious, but often misunderstood.

RENA

Female, 20s. Youngblood’s girlfriend, mother of his child. Strong-willed, practical, demands respect and honesty, and craves stability.

FIELDING

Male, 50s–60s. An older driver, former tailor. Charming but struggles with alcoholism.

DOUB

Male, 50s–60s. Korean War veteran. Wise, grounded, reliable, a man of integrity.

SHEALY

Male, 40s–50s. Flashy numbers runner who uses the station phone. Smooth, stylish, entrepreneurial, a hustler with flair.

PHILMORE

Male, 40s–50s. A hotel doorman and frequent passenger. Quirky, timid, adds texture and humor.
