SPT — $761 weekly minimum (SPT 8). An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

PREPARATION

Prepare a brief selection of a song in the style of one of our summer musicals. Instrumentalists, please be prepared to accompany yourself on your instrument if requested. If auditioning for nonmusical shows, prepare a brief monologue. Please bring a headshot and a resume stapled together.

Synopsis
A heartfelt, humorous celebration of what makes Connecticut ‘special’, I’m Connecticut is a hilarious, silly jaunt through one man’s difficulties finding love. Ensemble-driven and fast-paced, the show is a whirlwind of goofy characters and comedic situations, with a heartfelt truth at its center.

SEEKING:

  • Ensemble (Any Gender, Any Ethnicity, All Ages) — Ensemble piece. Some actors portray multiple characters across scenes, including locals, eccentrics, past blind dates, and others. Strong comedic skills and versatility are essential.

LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL

Synopsis
Set in a Philadelphia jazz club in 1959, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill offers an intimate portrait of Billie Holiday near the end of her life. Through music, memories, and raw honesty, Billie reflects on her career, her loves, her losses, and the demons that shaped her artistry. A powerful, emotionally demanding piece centered on one iconic performer.

SEEKING:

  • Billie Holiday (Female, Black, 30s–40s) — A legendary jazz singer—brilliant, wounded, defiant, and vulnerable. Strong vocal skills in the jazz/blues style.
  • Jimmy Powers (Male, Any Ethnicity, 30s–50s) — Band leader, pianist, and Billie’s closest confidant. Serves as Billie’s anchor, foil, and caretaker at different moments. Singing not required. Plays piano at an expert level.

Synopsis
The founding of a nation—debated, argued, sung, and fought over. 1776 dramatizes the political struggle behind the Declaration of Independence, revealing the humor, ego, compromise, and courage of America’s founders. Patriotic without being precious, the musical balances sharp wit with a soaring score and historical stakes.

Synopsis
In the days following September 11, 2001, 38 planes were diverted to the small town of Gander, Newfoundland—nearly doubling its population overnight. Come From Away tells the true story of strangers who became family through generosity, humor, and shared humanity. Fast-paced, ensemble-driven, and deeply moving.

Synopsis
Set during the Vietnam War, A Piece of My Heart follows six women who serve overseas as nurses, USO performers, and volunteers; each grappling with courage, fear, friendship, and the lasting cost of war. A powerful, female-driven drama that honors service while confronting trauma and resilience.

  • Whitney — A Vassar grad, initially prim, seeking adventure beyond teaching.
  • Martha — Strong, disciplined army brat, learns Vietnam is harder than expected.
  • LeeAnn — Half-Chinese, tough, urban, deals with racism and identity issues.
  • Sissy — Sweet, naive, from Pennsylvania, wants adventure.
  • Steele — Highly capable African-American nurse, often treated as an outsider.
  • MaryJo — Bubbly Texas country singer, uses guitar and humor, but carries deep sadness.

Synopsis
A warm, joyful, music-forward holiday celebration created especially for Ivoryton Playhouse. Blending classic carols, contemporary favorites, storytelling, humor, and heart, Playhouse Holiday Jamboree invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and sing their way into the season. Think vintage radio show energy meets modern holiday spirit.

SEEKING:

  • Host / Performer (Any Gender, 30s–50s) — Charismatic, musical, strong connection with audience. Guitar or other instrument a plus.
  • Ensemble Performers / Musicians (Any Gender, Adults) — Singers, storytellers, and instrumentalists who create a festive, communal experience. Strong musicianship and harmony skills are required.
