EPA procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

BREAKDOWN

Marc – Male, Jewish, 25–35, born and raised in Connecticut. The central theme of the play is that Connecticut is boring, and Marc reflects this. Not particularly attractive, but not unattractive. Marc has great comic timing and the ability to engage an audience and win them over.

Diane – Female, 25–35, born and raised in Georgia with a strong Southern accent. Diane is a romantic. Kind and generous, she has an upbeat personality and also a great sense of humor. Able to sing (just a little).

Judith / Polly – Female, over 60. Judith appears briefly in a flashback as Marc’s Jewish grandmother at the end of her life – feisty and funny. Polly is Diane’s mother, also from Georgia – feisty and funny. Able to sing (just a little).

Manager – Male, 35–45. Fast-talking New Yorker, cynical and hard-edged but with a vulnerable side and a sense of humor. Able to sing (just a little).

Kyle – CAST. Male, 35–45. Scientist, Boston accent.

Grandpa – CAST. Male, over 65. Jewish grandfather.

Ensemble Woman 1 – CAST. Age 25–40. Woman at a speed dating event; schoolteacher; the state of New Hampshire.

Ensemble Woman 2 – CAST. Age 25–40. Woman at a speed dating event; the state of Vermont and the state of West Virginia.

Ensemble Male 1 – CAST. Age 45–65. Mark Twain in a dream and the country of Canada.

Ensemble Male 2 – CAST. Age 25–40. The state of Florida and the state of Virginia.
