CONTRACT

LORT Non-Rep
$1213 weekly minimum (LORT B)
Huntington Theatre Company reserves the right to use the terms of the LORT-AEA CBA Rule 35(S) to simulcast/stream a capture of a regularly scheduled performance to virtual ticket holders for productions. An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Actors who are local to Boston or New England are encouraged to audition.

PREPARATION

Please prepare one monologue of your choosing or a monologue from any of the plays listed on the breakdown. Please bring a stapled copy of your headshot and resume. Actors must be checked in 10 minutes prior to their audition slot. If they do not arrive in time they will be moved to the waitlist.

  • SOLOMON “SONNY” JASPER: (Male, 60s+) The patriarch, a Reverend/doctor struggling to maintain order while facing personal disorientation and questioning the meaning of his life.
  • CLAUDINE JASPER: (Female, 60s+) The matriarch, deeply invested in preserving the family’s legacy and serving as the shepherd of the family.
  • SOLOMON “JUNIOR” JASPER JR.: (Male, 30s - 40s) The older son, seeking redemption and trying to live up to the family's influential reputation.
  • NAZARETH “NAZ” JASPER: (Male, 20s - 30s) The younger son, a loner and outsider, serving as the audience's guide into the family's chaotic inner world.
  • AZIZA HOUSTON: (Female, 20s - 30s) The outsider/girlfriend, bringing a new perspective and forcing the family to confront uncomfortable truths.
  • MORGAN JASPER: (Female, 30s - 40s) Junior's partner, offering an in-law perspective on the family dynamics.

SEEKING:

  • SCOUT: (30s, also portrays Scout as a child, White, Female) Graduated Law School in the present day. Curious, smart, prideful, quick to action, tomboyish.
  • JEM: (30s, also portrays Jem as a child, White, Male) Post-grad in the present day. Brave, reckless, protective, smart, loyal but self-governed.
  • DILL: (30s, also portrays Dill as a child, White, Male) He’s curious, imaginative, a chatterbox, and small for his age. He’s very empathetic.
  • ATTICUS FINCH: (50s - early 70s, White, Male) A widower. An incredibly intelligent and gracious lawyer, the moral backbone of all the action. Wise, patient, dry, truthful, strong yet confounded and cowardly at times.
  • CALPURNIA: THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST.
  • TOM ROBINSON: (Late 20s - early 30s, Black, Male) A young married man with two kids. He is quiet, scared, but strong and kind. Noble.
  • BOB EWELL: (40s - 60s, White, Male) An old farmer. Uneducated, evil, but a leader in his community. Intimidating, hateful, truly convinced of his own words and ways.
  • JUDGE TAYLOR: (50s - 60s, White, Male) The town judge and a pillar in the community. On the side of Right. Doubles as MOB #2
  • SHERIFF HECK TATE: (40s - 50s, White, Male) A familiar sheriff. Also, a pillar in the community. Duty-bound, conflicted, but ultimately on the side of Right. Doubles as MOB #3
  • HORACE GILMER: (30s - 40s, White, Male) A young, confident lawyer. Doubles as MOB #1 & PRISON GUARD
  • MR. CUNNINGHAM: (40s, White, Male) A poor farmer. Racist but involved in the community, proud but down on his luck. The Everyman. Doubles as LINK DEAS: (30s - 40s, White, Male) The town drunk, or so we think. He is always seen with a brown bag with two straws coming out of it. And DR. REYNOLDS
  • MAYELLA EWELL: (18, White, Female) Lonely and abused. She’s fragile and scared, but there’s a darkness to her.
  • MRS. HENRY DUBOSE / MISS. STEPHANIE / DILL’S MOTHER: THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST.
  • BOO RADLEY: (40s, White, Male) Incredibly shy, soft-spoken and very rarely speaking at all. But observant, protective, and kind. Doubles as BAILIFF

SEEKING:

  • TATOS CARTOZIAN: (he/him, 40s-60s): Armenian, a recent refugee of Armenian genocide. In a very short time has managed to make a home for his family in the US while working hard at making a successful family business. He is learning English and speaks with a thick Armenian accent. Doubles as ROBERT ZAKIAN (2024): Armenian American. City Councilman in Glendale, California. Accomplished, open-hearted, enthusiastic, carries an inner sadness / yearning that he doesn’t quite understand.
  • MARKRID CARTOZIAN: (she/her, 70s): Tato’s mother and the family matriarch. A recent refugee of Armenian genocide has lived through unspeakable atrocities. Speaks with a thick Armenian accent and uses her partial command of English sparingly and specifically. Carries the rituals and traditions into this unexpected new world. Strong-willed, hyper vigilant, realistic. Doubles as ROSE SARKISIAN (feels younger here) (2024): Armenian American. President of the Armenian Historical Society of Glendale and philanthropist for Children of Armenia. Carries a righteous sense of grandeur, mercurial, witty and to-the-point.
  • WALLACE MCCAMANT: (he/him, 30s to 40s) (1923-24): English-Irish descent, American. A founding partner of a law firm. Excellent at his job, a realist, with good intentions. Doubles as ALAN O’BRIEN: English-Irish descent, American. A producer on a reality TV show.
  • HAZEL CARTOZIAN: (she/her, 20s to 30s) (1923-24): Armenian refugee. Tatos’ daughter. Speaks English very well with a light Armenian accent. Deeply values her family’s Armenian traditions. Socially savvy, friendly but guarded; grounded in her traditional Armenian values. Doubles as THE CELEBRITY (2024): A world renowned Armenian American reality tv star. Has a subliminal desire to connect with her Armenian roots. Off camera: Kind, honest, a little lost.
  • VAHAN CARTOZIAN: (he/him, 30s) (1923-24): Armenian refugee Tatos’ son. Speaks English very well with a light Armenian accent. Vahan leaned into American culture the most out of his family. Headstrong, zealous, playful. Doubles as NARDEK VARTOUMIAN (2024): Armenian American. UCLA Armenian History professor and activist. Down-to-earth, compassionate, uninclined to confrontation.
  • THE WOMAN: (she/her, 40s to 60s) (1923-24): Armenian refugee. Tatos’ wife, Hazel and Vahan’s mother. Suffering from the trauma of the massacres in Armenia. Doubles as LESLIE MALCONIAN (2024): Armenian American.
