KING LEAR

Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Davis McCallum
First Rehearsal: April 6, 2026
Closing: September 17, 2026

ROLES:

  • LEAR: King of Britain, 60s. Proud, imperious, used to absolute authority, and undone by age, ego, and betrayal.
  • GONERIL: Lear’s eldest daughter, 40s. Sharp, commanding, ambitious, ruthless when threatened.
  • REGAN: Lear’s middle daughter, late 30s–40s. Cunning, cold, eager to match and outdo her sister in cruelty.
  • CORDELIA: Lear’s youngest daughter, 20s. Honest, principled, and unwilling to flatter — her integrity is her undoing and her strength.
  • DUKE OF ALBANY: Goneril’s husband, 40s–50s. Decent at heart, slow to act, grows in moral clarity as the world collapses.
  • DUKE OF CORNWALL: Regan’s husband, 40s–50s. Brutal, authoritarian, revels in violence.
  • KING OF FRANCE: Noble, steady, recognizes Cordelia’s worth when others reject her.
  • DUKE OF BURGUNDY: Suitor to Cordelia, drops his claim when her dowry disappears.
  • EARL OF GLOUCESTER: 60s. Loyal, credulous, devoted to Lear, blinded by misplaced trust, ultimately sees the truth too late.
  • EDGAR: Gloucester’s elder son, 30s. Naïve and trusting, forced into disguise as Poor Tom, proves resilient and compassionate.
  • EDMUND: Gloucester’s illegitimate son, late 30s. A citizen of the world, expert code-switcher who can move through social structures and expectations with fluency and confidence. Driven by a deep sense of injustice about the rules of the world, but able to play by them to get what he wants.
  • EARL OF KENT: 40s-50s. Blunt, loyal to Lear even in disguise, the play’s moral anchor.
  • THE FOOL: Age open, gender flexible. Lear’s jester, sharp-tongued truth-teller cloaked in riddles and song.
  • OSWALD: Goneril’s steward, 30s–40s. Obsequious to power, petty, eager to serve cruelty.

  • TOUCHSTONE: The court fool, any age. Quick-witted, bawdy, merciless in mockery, finds surprising tenderness in love.
  • JAQUES: Lord attending Duke Senior, 40s–50s. Melancholic, cynical, endlessly observant, sharp critic of human folly.
  • SILVIUS: A shepherd, 30s-40s. Lovesick, earnest, endlessly pursuing the disdainful Phoebe.

LES MISERABLES

Written by Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schonberg
Lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer (from the original French text by Alain Boublil & Jean-Marc Natel)
Directed by Jenn Thompson
Music Supervisor: Amanda Morton
First Rehearsal: July 6, 2026
Closing: September 27, 2026

ROLES:

  • JEAN VALJEAN: Tenor / High Baritone (A2 – B♭4). Male, 40s–50s. Former convict who rebuilds his life through compassion and faith. Haunted by his past yet redeemed by mercy, he becomes the moral heart of the story, wrestling constantly with justice and grace.
  • JAVERT: Baritone (F2 – F♯4). Male, 40s–50s. A rigid police inspector devoted to law and order. His absolute belief in duty drives his pursuit of Valjean and ultimately his own destruction. Commanding presence with vocal strength and control.
  • FANTINE / ENJOLRAS (Double): Mezzo-Soprano / Tenor (A3 – F5 / B2 – G4). Female/Male, 20s–30s. Fantine — a factory worker cast aside, whose love for her child and descent into poverty expose the story’s deepest humanity. Enjolras — a passionate revolutionary leader, fearless and eloquent, the voice of youthful conviction.
  • THÉNARDIER / BISHOP (Double): Baritone (A2 – G4). Male, 40s–60s. Two extremes of morality: the Bishop of Digne, serene and merciful; Thénardier, a cunning innkeeper who survives by wit and corruption. Requires range, humor, and precise character transformation.
  • MME. THÉNARDIER / ENSEMBLE (Double): Mezzo – Alto (F3 – D5). Female, 40s–50s. Crude, funny, and ruthless; a comic predator who delights in others’ misfortune. Sharp instincts, fearless physicality, and strong belt-mix required. Appears in ensemble scenes when not featured.
  • MARIUS / ENSEMBLE: Lyric Tenor or Baritone (A2 – A4). Male, early to mid 20s. An idealistic student torn between love and revolution. Earnest, intelligent, and open-hearted, discovering courage and maturity through loss.
  • COSETTE / ENSEMBLE: Soprano (B3 – C6). Female, late teens–early 20s. Raised in hardship yet radiant with hope. Innocent, curious, and compassionate, finding freedom and self-assurance through love. Bright, expressive voice.
  • ÉPONINE / ENSEMBLE: Mezzo-Soprano with belt (F3 – E5). Female, late teens–early 20s. Streetwise, defiant, and heartbreakingly vulnerable. Her unrequited love for Marius reveals both grit and grace. Grounded, truthful.
  • ENSEMBLE: Female & Male, All vocal ranges. 20s–40s, all identities. The living soul of Les Misérables — prisoners, factory workers, students, soldiers, townspeople. Strong part singers who can create distinct physical and emotional worlds; flexible, inclusive casting.
  • GAVROCHE: Treble (B3 – E5). Male, 10–13. Brash, witty, and fearless street urchin; symbol of defiance and youthful bravery. Sharp timing and natural confidence required.
  • YOUNG COSETTE: Child Soprano (B3 – E♭5). Female, 8–12. Delicate, innocent, and pure of voice. Sings “Castle on a Cloud” with simplicity and emotional honesty.
  • YOUNG EPONINE: The pampered daughter of the Thénardiers. She does little except taunt Young Cosette. She will be a smaller version of grown Eponine and resemble them in appearance and features.
