Please prepare a short song in the style of the show. Singing from the show is fine. Please bring your picture and resume, stapled together. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

EDNA TURNBLAD

Typically played by a man in drag. White. Large physique. 40s–50s. Sincere and honest. Strong comic ability. 1960s Baltimore housewife, “larger than life” character with singing ability to play the mother of Tracy.

TRACY TURNBLAD

Female, high school age. White. A plus-sized girl with big hair, an even bigger heart, and an aspiration to change the world. Outgoing, unstoppable, good-hearted, vibrant and lovable. Strong dancer/mover. Strong pop belt singer.

LINK LARKIN

Male, high school age. White. Handsome, sexy, clean-cut, good-hearted, down-to-earth. The heartthrob of the local TV teen dance show. Strong pop singer and great mover.

MOTORMOUTH MAYBELLE

Female, Black, 40s–50s. Queen of Baltimore soul, a radio DJ. Powerful and inspiring, with an infectious, brassy personality. Strong soulful, gospel/pop singer.

CORNY COLLINS

Male, White, 30s. Host of local TV teen dance show. Handsome, charming, engaging, smooth. Strong pop singer who can move.

PENNY PINGLETON

Female, White, high school age. Ditzy, neurotic, devoted best friend of Tracy. Very funny. Pop singer with strong belt, good mover.

SEAWEED J. STUBBS

Male, Black, high school age. Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. Cocky but surprisingly lovable. Strong singer and dancer.

LITTLE INEZ

Female, Black, young teen. Seaweed’s lovable little sister. Spunky, tough, streetwise, outgoing. Soulful voice, strong belt, great mover.

AMBER VON TUSSLE

Female, White, high school age. The show’s resident princess: conniving and selfish but superficially perky. Strong dancer/singer.

VELMA VON TUSSLE

Female, White, 30s–40s. Ex-beauty queen glamour. Sweet-seeming, manipulative, controlling villainess. Good comic who sings well.

WILBUR TURNBLAD

Male, White, 40s–50s. Loving, mischievous character; Tracy’s father. Moves well.

PRUDY PINGLETON

Female, White, 40s–50s. Comedic. Various zany roles including Penny Pingleton's uptight and small-minded mother. Doubles as a sadistic high school gym teacher and prison matron. Minimal singing role. Simple dance movement required.
