PREPARATION

Please prepare 16-bars of a song and a monologue from the play which will be provided on the morning of the audition. This monologue should be performed with a Wisconsin accent. Bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Please also bring a headshot & resume stapled together.

BREAKDOWN

GUYS ON ICE

MARVIN and LLOYD are working-class guys from northern Wisconsin. They may seem a little slow on the uptake, but there is a native intelligence and wry good humor that suggests an active thought life. There is a casual pace to life in Door County, especially in the winter. No locals are in a hurry to get anywhere.

NOTE: All must have an impeccable Wisconsin accent with great comedic timing and strong vocal ability. Songs feature close harmonies and some a cappella singing. The show will be performed with piano only. Lake George Dinner Theatre is a small venue, and actors will not be wearing body mics.

SEEKING:

LLOYD (age range 35-50; Tenor range D3-E4, occasionally up to Bb4) A married ice fisherman.

MARVIN (age range 35-50; Bari-tenor range C3-E4, occasionally up to G4) A bachelor ice fisherman.

ERNIE (age range 35-50; Baritone range A2-E4) A moocher. The kind of guy who always says the wrong thing, maybe on purpose, maybe not. In other cultures he would be a coyote or trickster. Up here he’s just a pain in the butt. Ability to play any type of hand-held instrument that can sound goofy or sentimental a plus (harmonica, ukulele, trombone, accordion, etc).
