For Non-Musicals: Please prepare a 90-second monologue from the canon of American drama. For Musicals: Please prepare either a contemporary piece of musical theatre, or alternatively, a piece rooted in contemporary pop music that’s no more than 90 seconds. Please bring the music sheet. An accompanist will be provided. You may do both a monologue and a song not to exceed 2 minutes total. All should bring their headshots and resumes stapled together.

Male, Age range 40-60, open ethnicity. Vocal range top: G4. The gregarious and well-liked Mayor of Gander, Newfoundland. Claude loves his work, the townspeople and his daily routine.
Female, Age range 30-40, open ethnicity. Vocal range top: B4. A no-nonsense mother of three. Bonnie is the head of the Gander area SPCA.
Female, Age range 40-60, open ethnicity. The head of the Gander Legion, with a firefighter son. Beulah becomes friends with Hannah.
Male, Age range 30-50, open ethnicity. Vocal range top: G4. The quirky constable in the two-person Gander police force. A helper by nature.
Female, Age range 20-30, open ethnicity. Vocal range top: E5. An eager new local TV reporter, Janice is thrown into the deep end on her first day on the job.
Female, Age range 50-60, White. Vocal range top: C#5. The first female captain for American Airlines. Beverly has always loved flying. Doubles as ANNETTE — a mom and a local teacher at the Gander Academy.
Female, Age range 50-60, open ethnicity. Vocal range bottom: D5. A traditional divorcee from Texas, who is terrified that her son may have been flying at the time of the attacks.
Male, Age range 50-60, open ethnicity. Vocal range top: E4. An English oil engineer who is focused on his work. Nick’s life is turned upside down when he falls for Diane. English accent. Doubles as DOUG - an Air Traffic Controller, married to Bonnie, who tries to help his wife and the animals.
Male, Age range 30-50, open ethnicity. Vocal range top: G4. Doubles as GARTH - the head of the local union representing the bus driver.
Male, Age range 30-50, MENASA. Kevin T’s boyfriend and secretary. Sarcastic and unhappy, Kevin wants to leave Gander as soon as possible.
Male, Age Range 20-40, Black. A hardened New Yorker. Bob is suspicious of where he’s landed.
Female, Age range 40-60, open ethnicity. Vocal range top: E5. The mother of a firefighter in Manhattan, Hannah waits for news about her son. Hannah becomes friends with Beulah.

Age range 30s (or older). Illuminates the joys of Christmas to Scrooge.
Age range 40s (or older). Towering physical presence. Joyful spirit.
Age range 40s (or older). Sturdy physical frame. A scary presence that communicates non-verbally.
Age range 40s (or older). Scrooge’s opinionated cook/housekeeper. Mrs. Fezziwig is spirited and joyful, a real firecracker.
Age range 40s (or older). Deceased business partner of Scrooge. He comes back as a ghost to caution Scrooge against self-serving practices.
Age range 30s-40s. Cheerful and devoted employee of Scrooge. Optimistic and caring father.
Age range 30s-40s. Loving wife of Bob Cratchit. Worried mother, harbors ill will toward Scrooge.
Age range late 20s. Scrooge’s young nephew. Genial and appreciative of the Christmas spirit. Young Scrooge is an apprentice and the love interest of Belle.
Age range late 20s. Wife of Fred. Strong-willed, but with a generous spirit.
Age range 20s. Sassy and opinionated.
Age range 20s. Bumbling with words, pleasant attitude, boyish charm.
Age range 30s (or older). Jovial lawyer with a hearty laugh and quick smile.
Age range 30s (or older). Generous lawyer, but a bit of a hothead.

(Doubles as JESUS) Vocal range: top B4 / bottom C3. The reigning spelling champion of Putnam County. Relatively athletic and social. He expects things to come easily to him. Lately, he’s been going through some weird changes, and things are slipping out of his control. Solo requires him to sing high notes.
Vocal range: top G5 / bottom G3. Youngest of the bee participants but driven by internal and external pressure, above all by a desire to win so that she can make her two fathers happy. She’s not entirely comfortable in her body.
(Doubles as CARL’S DAD) Vocal range: top A4 / bottom A2. A second alternate, Leaf never expected to compete. Suffers from A.D.D. but delights in his own wandering focus. Leaf does not expect to win — or even spell any word correctly, but he finds absolutely everything incredibly amusing. His mother forces him to wear his protective helmet to the bee.
Vocal range: top Bb4 / bottom C3. A kid with a host of health issues and a lot to prove. He is loud and combative — a go-to defensive posture. He’s the kid who becomes a bully to avoid being picked on. He’s known in the spelling circuit for his remarkable technique of spelling words on the floor with his foot. He was eliminated the previous year due to an adverse allergic reaction to peanuts and is here for vindication.
Vocal range: top Eb5 / bottom A3. The ultimate overachiever. She comes from a family where excellence is expected. Confident that she can beat the local competition. Her many talents include piano, dance, baton twirling, and martial arts.
Vocal range: top F#5 / bottom A3. A word lover, Olive is an only child with often absent parents. She is very shy. She lives a quiet life and is often alone. She fills all her extra time by reading the dictionary.
(Doubles as OLIVE’S MOM) Vocal range: top E5 / bottom C4. Putnam’s long-time spelling bee hostess, a local realtor and a past champion of the bee. This is Rona’s day to be queen. She keeps the bee competition running smoothly by upholding protocol and conveying crucial information to the audience.
He fell into education, less out of love and more like an ability. He’s stuck in his current job, endlessly waiting for a promotion. He was not happy to get a call to be the substitute but starts the bee eager to impress Rona Lisa.
(Doubles as OLIVE’S DAD and DAN’S DAD) Vocal range: top A4 / bottom E3. The Official Comfort Counselor. An ex-convict, Mitch is performing his community service at the bee by handing out juice boxes to losing students. He has no idea how to offer comfort.
