PREPARATION
Please prepare a contemporary monologue that is no longer than 60 seconds and a contrasting monologue or contemporary musical theater, pop, or folk song that is no longer than 60 seconds. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a headshot and resume stapled together.
OTHER DATES
The National Playwrights Conference will present staged readings of six new plays. Each play will have a week-long workshop with two public readings. The Conference will take place from June 17th to July 5th, 2026.
The National Music Theater Conference will present staged readings of two new musicals. Each musical will have a 2-week workshop with three public readings. The Conference will take place from July 6th to July 19th, 2026.

TRACK 1 – she/hers, African/Black, early 20s, A PhD student in Seattle, battling with her demons that sometimes get the best of her. Is bougier than she wants to admit. Extremely smart. Would die for her brother.
TRACK 2 – he/his, African/Black, early 30s, a car mechanic, dropped out of school to raise his sister. Religious, Jesus is number one, goes to church every Sunday and prays every morning and evening. Would die for his sister.

Workshop 2
TRACK 1 - any race, female, 17 years old (but open to 20s playing 17) A driven, well-meaning, 4.0 honors student, editor-in-chief of the school newspaper with an ambitious plan to get into a top journalism school for college. When she can overcome her anxiety, she’s down for fun. But underneath it all she has a strong desire to remain in control. Vocals: a powerhouse singer on the pop side of MT, medium to high belt/mix.
TRACK 2 - any race, female, 17 years old (but open to 20s playing 17). A kind, self-assured teen from privilege. She’s been through more than she shows. The kind of self-possessed, well-mannered teenager that adults really like. Vocals: Mezzo
TRACK 3 - any race, female, 17 years old (but open to 20s playing 17). Whip-smart, with a fun flair for the dramatic. She has a strong sense of who she is and who her friends are and has no time for self-doubt. Our charming comedic relief / barometer of what’s normal. Vocals: Medium to high belt/mix
TRACK 4 - 17, any race, female. A quietly intense and hypnotic force. Vocals: power belter - this role is majority singing and presence
TRACK 5 - 17, female. Flexible ensemble member doubles various teenagers throughout, strong comedic timing. Vocals: Mezzo
TRACK 6 - any race, male, 18 / 18+ to play 18. A gentle giant - emphasis on giant (he sings a song about what a big guy he is). The humble, easy-going, star offensive lineman of a mediocre high school football team. Vocals: tenor with strong R&B chops
TRACK 7 - 50s/60s any race, male. A supportive, loving father who thinks of his daughter as an easy kid - not too much parenting required! Also doubles as other roles, an annoyed teacher and a helpful, strict counselor. Vocals: Baritone/Tenor
TRACK 8 - 50s/60s, any race, female. A well-meaning mother who struggles with her own self-image issues. An honest, empathetic woman who thinks raising a daughter is a lot more challenging than raising her two older sons. Vocals: Alto to Mezzo
