SWEENEY TODD:
[NOTE: The role of Tobias is cast.]
SWEENEY TODD: 35–55. Powerful, charismatic baritone/bass to play the disillusioned romantic whose obsession with revenge leads to his demise. G2 to–F4.
MRS. LOVETT: 35–55. Energetic, loquacious, scatterbrained. She is both maternal and murderously mercenary. F#3-E5 (Alto with good range.)
ANTHONY HOPE: Must be able to convincingly play age 18–early 20s. Young sailor who befriends Todd. Upon returning to London, he falls in love with Todd’s daughter, Johanna. C3–F#4 (Tenor)
JOHANNA: Judge Turpin's lovely, young ward and Todd’s long-lost daughter. Innocent and aching to free herself from Turpin's grasp. Must be able to convincingly play age 16. C4-Bb5. (Lyrical soprano.)
BEGGARWOMAN: Todd's wife who ingested poison which left her deranged and schizophrenic. She is both childlike, and hypersexual. Strong actress with legit voice and excellent diction. A3-F#5 (Mezzo.)
JUDGE TURPIN: Corrupt and lecherous official who hides in the guise of sanctimonious honor. Some partial nudity may be required. B2-F1. (Bari/bass.)
BEADLE: Pompous public official whose real loyalty is only to the corrupt Turpin. Bb2-to F4, with optional C5 (Tenor)
PIRELLI: Flamboyant Italian with secret past. A charlatan and rival barber. G#2-high A (Tenor)
SOUND OF MUSIC
MARIA RAINER: Postulant at Nonnberg Abbey. Free-spirited, outspoken girl whose love of music eventually leads her to her true calling. Early 20s, soprano to high C.
CAPTAIN GEORG VON TRAPP: Austrian Naval Officer, with deep love of country. A widower whose grief has estranged him from his 7 children. Acoustic guitar skills a plus. Lyric baritone, mid-40s to mid-50s.
MOTHER ABBESS: Warm, wise Reverend Mother who helps Maria find her true path. Legit soprano with high A. Age range 50+.
ELSA SCHRAEDER: Attractive, cosmopolitan Baroness. Engaged to Georg, but her willingness to do business with Nazis eventually ends their relationship. Soprano with high B. Age range mid-30s to mid-40s.
MAX DETWEILER: Gregarious talent scout, friend to the von Trapps. Shares Elsa’s views about the impending Nazi occupation, but helps the von Trapp family escape them in the end. Bari/tenor, mid-40s to mid-50s.
FRANZ: Mid-aged butler to the von Trapp family. He was Capt. von Trapp’s orderly in the Imperial Navy. A secret Nazi sympathizer. Mid-40s to 60.
FRAU SCHMIDT: No-nonsense housekeeper for the von Trapp family. Age range 50s-60s.
LIESL: Eldest of the von Trapp children, she has acted as surrogate mother to them. On the brink of womanhood, she is resistant to Maria’s guidance, but eventually embraces her as friend and stepmother. Soprano with excellent movement skills. Must be able to play 16 convincingly.
ROLF GRUBER: Young Austrian telegram delivery boy. A would-be suitor to Liesl, he is recruited by the Nazis and betrays the von Trapps in order to prove his loyalty to the Third Reich. Tenor with excellent movement skills. Must be able to play 17 convincingly.
GYPSY
ROSE: Alto with belt. Wildly determined stage mother determined to make her 2o young daughters into vaudeville stars.
BABY JUNE: 7-10. Child belt. Very overproduced young girl—pretty, cute and fake. Must be strong dancer. Very flexible.
BABY LOUISE: 8-11. June’s “less-talented” older sister.
JUNE: Alto. Rose’s pet project. The older she gets, the less she enjoys being her mother’s trained monkey.
LOUISE: Mezzo. Rose’s younger, browbeaten daughter. Has crush on Tulsa. Eventually becomes famous and no longer needs her mother’s help or approval.
HERBIE: Baritone. Rose’s agent and suitor—as gentle as she is brash.
TULSA: Baritone. One of June’s dancers. Boy next door. Loves June. Must be excellent dancer (ballet and tap).
TESSIE TURA: Mezzo with belt. Burlesque dancer that shares her dressing room with Louise. Strong dancer with comic timing.
MAZEPPA: Alto with belt. Trumpet playing burlesque dancer. Musical theatre dancer with comic timing. Trumpet playing an asset.
ELECTRA: Mezzo with belt. Burlesque dancer. Musical theatre dancer with comic timing.

Preparation Please prepare 32 bars of legit musical theatre--no pop/rock (light opera OK if auditioning for SWEENEY TODD). Have a second selection ready if asked. Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. Bring headshot and resume.
Other This is an Equity Performer Audition. Chorus Singers will also be seen. EPA Rules apply.
