BREAKDOWN
DRUNK SHAKESPEARE NYC 2026
Every evening, a group of five skilled performers, members of 'The Drunk Shakespeare Society,' gather to put on a mesmerizing play. But here's the thrilling twist: one among them bravely indulges in multiple shots of liquid courage, setting the stage for an unforgettable performance.
Since 2014, Drunk Shakespeare has been entertaining audiences from all over the world with productions in NYC, Chicago, DC, Phoenix, and Houston. Drunk Shakespeare is a New York Times Critics’ Pick and the Chicago Tribune said it “may just wind up being one of the most enjoyable ways to experience a tragedy.” Alumni from the cast have gone on to perform on Broadway, in the West End, Blue Man Group, The Deuce, Billions, Sunnyside and on national tours.
We're on the lookout for an eclectic mix of performers, each bringing their unique flair and artistic prowess to our ensemble. No matter your background or identity, we invite you to apply for roles that interest and excite you. Joining our dynamic troupe means being part of a rotating cast, collaborating closely with the director to sculpt your character, putting forth your individuality, and spotlighting your strengths as a performer. It's a celebration of you! Here, comedic brilliance, a magnetic stage presence, specialized talents, a fondness for Shakespeare, and a fervent commitment to ensemble play are the keys to unlocking this exhilarating experience.
NOTE: Cast members are required to drink onstage approximately once per week. Strict drinking guidelines will be adhered to. Our current show is Drunk Romeo and Juliet, but upcoming shows include Drunk Pirates, Drunk Dracula and Drunk Christmas Carol. All roles are ensemble-based and if cast you will be asked to learn many tracks.
NOTE: All performers must be 21+, comfortable with outrageous, interactive comedy, and able to drink onstage approximately once per week.
SEEKING:
TRACK 1:
Romeo / Dracula / Scrooge / Long John Silver - Commanding, with charm, swagger, and major leading-role presence. This track moves from full-throttle romantic to supernatural seducer, bitter holiday icon, and charming pirate manipulator. Possesses strong language skills, magnetic audience connection, sharp comedy, and the ability to lead the story while pivoting between sincerity, menace, absurdity, and heart.
TRACK 2:
Juliet / Mina / Cindy Lou / Jim - Bright, and emotionally open. Anchors the chaos with truth. This track moves from rebellious young romantic to intelligent gothic heroine, heart-forward holiday optimist, and scrappy young adventurer. Possesses emotional depth, strong physical storytelling, comedic awareness, and the ability to make bold theatrical worlds feel grounded and human.
TRACK 3:
Montague / Harker / Cratchit / Dr. Livesey - A versatile character with big feelings, precise comedy, and the ability to spiral beautifully. This track covers overwhelmed gothic sincerity, holiday optimism under pressure, medical reason barely holding it together, and heightened supporting authority. Someone who can build distinct characters quickly, commit fully, and find the funny inside panic, hope, and failure.
TRACK 4:
Capulet / Professor Buffy Van Yuengling / Marley / Captain Keira Knightley - Bold, and high-impact, who enters like a force of nature and transforms constantly. This track moves through authority figures, vampire-slaying pop culture chaos, ghosts, objects, cameos, and celebrity pirate confidence. Skilled in physical comedy, with sharp timing, fearless commitment, and the ability to lead a room without asking permission.
HOST:
Host / Prince / Ensemble / Villains / Parrot / Narrator / Ghosts - The engine of the show and the glue holding everything together. Guides the audience, steers the chaos, jumps between characters and impressions, and keeps the room fully engaged from start to finish. A confident improviser with strong audience instincts, rapid-fire comedic energy, and a natural command of the room.
SWINGS
We are also looking for actors who can learn up to four of the above listed tracks and act as Swing coverage.
