DOG DAY AFTERNOON (Broadway)
COLLEEN - Character portrayed is female, 40s - 50s, probably Irish-American. Head Bank Teller. Single. Very firm and very smart, with an unexpected heart.
LORNA - Character portrayed is female, 30s - 50s, white. Bank Teller. Married. A little ditzy but well-meaning.
ALISON - Character portrayed is female, 20s - late 30s, white. The youngest of the Bank Tellers. Highly intelligent and taking night courses to better her circumstances and break out of the neighborhood. In love with her professor.
GUADALUPE - Character portrayed is female, 20s - 30s, Latiné. Bank Teller, hides out in the bathroom smoking. She has a way of getting through to Sal and calming him.
NELSON BUTTERMAN - Character portrayed is male, 50s, white. The Bank Manager. This is his kingdom.
DETECTIVE MORETTI - Character portrayed is male, 40s - 50s, open ethnicity. Plain clothes detective. He lives in the neighborhood, he's an alcoholic, he's in over his head but trying to pull off a miracle and save the day.
AGENT SHELDON - Character portrayed is male, 30s - 50s, white. FBI Agent, Dry. Witty. He is the law and he does his job. Sonny describes him as reminding him of his high school gym teacher, you know, the All-American type.
LEON - Character portrayed is 30s - 40s, open ethnicity. Sonny’s wife. Funny, Smart, Half-Crazy. A transgender woman prior to their medical transition.
ROXXANA - Character portrayed is female, mid 30s - 50ish, open ethnicity. Sexy bored Bank Teller. This role will double with other role(s).
MR. EDDY - Character portrayed is male, 60 - 70, African-American. Bank security guard, a veteran. Genial, but nobody's fool. He attempts to stop the robbery. This role will double with other role(s).
RAY RAY - Character portrayed is male, 20s - 30s, open ethnicity. Sal and Sonny’s incompetent accomplice to the attempted robbery. This role will double with other role(s).
WIDOWER DAVE - Character portrayed is male, 40s - 50s, white. A customer at the bank who has a crush on Colleen. This role will double with other role(s).
MR. NESBIT - Character portrayed is male, 30s - 50s, open ethnicity. A local businessman working across the street from the bank, he thinks he spots trouble. This role will double with other role(s).
SGT. BROWN - Character portrayed is male, open ethnicity. Local cop sent to the scene. This role will double with other role(s).
LEONARD FINE - Character portrayed is male, 20 - 50s. White or Latino. TV personality interviewing Sonny’s mom. This role will double with other role(s).
TV NEWS ANCHOR - Character portrayed is male, open age and ethnicity. This role will double with other role(s).
SONNY’S MOM - Character portrayed is female, 40s - 60s, white. She wants to meet Geraldo Rivera. This role will double with other roles(s).
SONNY’S EX-WIFE - Character portrayed is female, 20s - 40, white. His high school sweetheart from the neighborhood. She's still in love with Sonny and worn down from the pain of losing him and raising their 2 young children on her own, with no alimony or child support. This role will double with other role(s).
ADAM MANGALO - Character portrayed is male, 20s - 40s, open ethnicity. Gay rights activist being interviewed about Sonny. This role will double with other role(s).
SAL - THIS ROLE IS CAST. Character portrayed is male, 20s - 50s, white. Sonny's psychologically scarred, well-intentioned but clearly unstable accomplice and muscle. He agrees to do the robbery out of love and loyalty for Sonny but does so only with the understanding and agreement from Sonny that if things go south, they will both honor a suicide pact & go out guns a blazing. Sal is pathologically determined to never go back to prison.
SONNY - THIS ROLE IS CAST. Character portrayed is male, 20s - 40, white. A fast-talking NYC Vietnam Vet who robs a bank to pay for his lover's sex change operation. His explosive temper is often at odds with deep underlining feelings of shame and a profound need to be liked.
