KING HEDLEY II

LORT D
Written by: August Wilson
Directed by: Ken-Matt Martin

First Rehearsal: February 9, 2027
Preview: March 11, 2027
Opening: March 20, 2027
Closing: April 11, 2027

SEEKING:

  • KING HEDLEY II - 35, Black, intense, proud, and deeply wounded; a man recently released from prison trying to build a future in a world that has offered him very little grace. King is driven by dreams of ownership, stability, and legacy, but his desperation and unresolved rage place him on a collision course with the people around him. Fiercely intelligent beneath his volatility, he carries both the hope and devastation of a generation fighting to survive.
  • TONYA - Early to mid 30s, Black, grounded, exhausted, and emotionally guarded; King’s wife, carrying the weight of disappointment, survival, and fear about the future. Tonya deeply loves King but sees the reality of the world more clearly than he does. Her strength comes from hard-earned realism and a refusal to romanticize suffering.
  • RUBY - 60s, Black, glamorous, sharp-tongued, and emotionally resilient; King’s mother and a former nightclub singer still holding tightly to beauty, romance, and memory. Ruby is both nurturing and self-protective, carrying the scars of past choices while trying to maintain dignity in a world that has constantly shifted beneath her.
  • ELMORE - 60s, Black, smooth, charming, and opportunistic; Ruby’s longtime suitor and a man who has spent his life surviving through hustle, charisma, and instinct. Elmore carries himself with confidence and humor, but underneath is someone deeply familiar with loss, regret, and the cost of aging.
  • MISTER - 30s to 40s, Black, loyal, restless, and emotionally searching; King’s closest friend and partner in hustling. Mister longs for connection and stability but often masks loneliness with humor and bravado. He carries a tenderness beneath his rough edges and functions as both companion and witness to King’s unraveling.
  • STOOL PIGEON - 60s to 70s, Black, prophetic, eccentric, and spiritually untethered; a neighborhood fixture carrying newspapers, memories, and visions of judgment and redemption. Once institutionalized, Stool Pigeon now exists as both man and chorus, speaking with biblical urgency about history, violence, and the end of the world. He is haunting, funny, and deeply human all at once.

XTRAVAGANZA

LORT B
In association with 1000% Productions and Broadway Music Group
Book by R. Eric Thomas
Music and Lyrics by Khiyon Hursey
Music Supervision by Bill Sherman
Choreography by Kyle Abraham
Directed by Stevie Walker-Webb
First Rehearsal: March 23, 2027
Preview: May 7, 2027
Opening Night: May 22, 2027
Closing: June 13, 2027

SEEKING:

  • JOSÉ - Ages 15 through 30, Dominican, magnetic and driven, a shooting star burning through every space he’s in. Angie calls him Little One and there’s something delicate and petite about him that contrasts with the incredible drive within him. He is a MAJOR talent. He’s going to change the way we move, the way we party, the way we live, but first he’s got to push through grief and self-doubt. A strong voguer and ballet dancer.
  • MARIO - Ages 22 through 38, slick, confident, a Hispanic boy with a professional sheen; the PT Barnum of the L.E.S. Mario comes across as brash and sometimes dickish, maybe only looking out for himself, but if he was a white man in this time they’d give him the keys to the Stock Market and elect him President. He feels out of place in both the ballroom world and in his day job on Wall Street, but he masks it with bravado and ambition.
  • LUNA - Ages 15 through 30, a transfemme Latina, with a raw beauty that evolves into glamor. When we meet her she’s hungry for more, driven to desperation by poverty. She’s shrewd but she’s still getting her sea legs.
  • ANGIE - 24, Puerto Rican and transfemme. The Mother of the House. An Icon even in her own time. She’s got everyone under her eye, but she’s still a young woman coming into her own. Commanding and driven, wildly funny and deadly serious at once, someone who is bigger than her time and her circumstance.
  • SHORTSTACK - Ages 15 through 30, Black and transfemme, the life of the party, would be on Project Runway if it existed in the 80s and if anyone gave a bitch a damn chance. Finds the House, but struggles to define her place. Lives in Venus’s shadow, jealous of José, questions whether she should leave.
  • VENUS - Ages 18 through 30, transfemme Latina, radiant and impossibly magnetic; someone who walks into a room and instantly shifts the temperature. Venus is chasing beauty, softness, visibility, and the right to be fully seen as herself.
  • HECTOR - Forever 30s, Puerto Rican, elegant, visionary, and deeply charismatic; the original architect of the House and someone who could see possibility in people long before they saw it in themselves. Hector dreamed bigger than the world allowed and built ballroom not just as escape, but as legacy, protection, and chosen family. Hector becomes part memory, part mythology, and part ancestral force woven into the DNA of the House itself.
  • ENSEMBLE - Ages 18 through 40, all ethnicities and gender presentations. The ensemble portrays the living world of ballroom culture: House members, partygoers, rivals, lovers, club kids, ghosts, and the spirit of the House itself as it evolves from an underground refuge into an enduring legacy. Seeking bold, high-energy performers with strong movement ability, distinct personalities, and commanding stage presence. (STRONG SINGER/DANCERS – EXCELLENT VOGUERS AND MOVERS ENCOURAGED)
