PREPARATION

Rehearsals are in NEW YORK. Please prepare a short cut of a contemporary up-tempo or ballad in the style of the shows noted. An accompanist will be provided. Remember to bring sheet music in the correct key. For non-singing roles, please prepare a monologue that runs 90 seconds or less. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

SEEKING

Narrator / Mysterious Man (Male, open ethnicity, age 30–70): An excellent storyteller who relates directly with the audience. Sometimes a mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler with a secret.

Cinderella (Female, open ethnicity, age 20–35): A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters. Powerful and funny. Vocal range: G3–G5.

Jack (Male, open ethnicity, age 18+): The feckless giant killer who is ‘almost a man.’ Adventurous, naive, energetic, bright-eyed. Vocal range: B2–G4.

Jack’s Mother / Granny (Female, open ethnicity, age 50–65): Jack’s protective mother who is bold, strong-willed, and funny. Doubles as Little Red’s Granny. Vocal range: Bb3–Gb5.

The Baker (Male, open ethnicity, age 30–50): A harried and insecure baker who is simple and loving, yet protective of his wife. Vocal range: Ab2–G4.

The Baker’s Wife (Female, open ethnicity, age 30–50): Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. Warm, funny, passionate, fearless. Vocal range: F3–G5.

Cinderella’s Stepmother (Female, open ethnicity, age 40–60): Mean-spirited, demanding. Vocal range: A3–F#5.

Florinda (Female, open ethnicity, age 20–35): One of Cinderella’s stepsisters. Vocal range: C4–Ab5.

Lucinda (Female, open ethnicity, age 20–35): The other stepsister. Vocal range: C4–Ab5.

Little Red Riding Hood (Female, open ethnicity, age 18+): Strong-willed, quick-witted, fearless, funny. Vocal range: Bb3–F5.

The Witch / Cinderella’s Mother (Female, open ethnicity, age 45–55): Witch is sarcastic and hilarious; Cinderella’s Mother is her soul guarding her daughter. Vocal range: F3–G5.

Wolf / Cinderella’s Prince (Male, open ethnicity, age 30–35): Wolf: hungry and sexy; Prince: vain and gorgeous. Vocal range: Bb2–Gb4.

Rapunzel (Female, open ethnicity, age 20–30): Sheltered, lonely, yearning. Vocal range: B3–A5.

Corny Collins (Male, White, 25–35): Charismatic host. High baritenor, strong pop singer. Vocal range: D3–Bb4.

Edna Turnblad (White, 40–55): Tracy's mother. Typically played by a man in drag. Bass-baritone, character voice. Vocal range: D2 (F2 listed as F2) – D4 (noting F2/D2 if possible).

Penny Pingleton (Female, White, 18+ to play high school age): Tracy's best friend. Contemporary theatre/pop voice, strong high belt. Vocal range: A3–G5.

Velma Von Tussle (Female, White, 45–55): Amber's mother, devious and snobby. Mezzo-soprano with strong belt mix. Vocal range: Ab3–E5.

Amber Von Tussle (Female, White, 18+ to play high school age): Snobby nemesis. Contemporary theatre/pop voice, strong high belt. Vocal range: A3–F5.

Link Larkin (Male, White, 18+ to play high school age): Star heartthrob. Tenor with strong falsetto. Vocal range: E3–A4.
