Next to Normal is a Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical that delves into the heart of a family shattered by mental illness but held together by love. The role of Diana has been cast, seeking replacements only.
SEEKING:
- Diana [replacements only] - early 40s, female presenting, mezzo/belter. Diana is seriously struggling with her mental health. She wants to be a good mom, but is tortured by her painful past. Her mental illness has taken a toll over the years, on Diana and on her family.
- Dan - early 40s, male presenting, tenor. Diana's loyal husband. He wants the best for her and for their family and has been a constant in Diana's tumultuous life. Holding onto hope has become increasingly difficult and his desire to control the chaos in his life sometimes backfires.
- Natalie - 18+ to play 16, female presenting, mezzo/belter. Diana & Dan's troubled daughter. An accomplished pianist and hardworking student, her struggles are exacerbated by her mother's behavior and her fear of developing the same mental health issues. When things get bad at home she begins self-medicating with pharmaceuticals and dance clubs. NOTE: This role will require smoking and intimacy with the actor playing Henry (kissing). Piano skills a plus, but not required.
- Gabe - 18+ to play 18, male presenting, rock tenor. Diana & Dan's son. Charismatic, charming and also dangerous. Gabe is different things to different people in his family. Sometimes he’s the perfect son, sometimes he’s a nightmare. This role requires a strong, athletic mover.
- Henry - 18+ to play 16-17, male presenting, bari-tenor. Natalie's classmate - a charming slacker. Henry is a jazz musician and sometimes philosopher. He’s sympathetic and romantic in a way that takes Natalie off guard. This role will require smoking and intimacy with the actor playing Natalie (kissing).
- Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine - 30s-50s, male presenting, bari-tenor. Dr. Madden is Diana's psychiatrist. Good at his job, supportive for Diana and the family and occasionally mistaken for a rock star. Dr. Fine is Diana’s first psychiatrist, who isn’t particularly interested in listening to her and relies heavily on medication for treatment.
A CHRISTMAS STORY THE MUSICAL
Book by Joseph Robinette
Music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul
Based on the motion picture A Christmas Story distributed by Warner Bros., written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark
Directed by Richard Roland
Musical Direction by Brandon Magid
FIRST REHEARSAL
November 10, 2025
PERFORMANCES
December 10, 2025 - January 4, 2026
Waldron Auditorium
Based on the beloved holiday film, with songs from the team behind Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land, and The Greatest Showman, this delightful holiday musical is a joyous celebration of Christmas, family, and childhood dreams.
SEEKING:
- Jean Shepherd/Narrator - late 40s to early 60s, male presenting, non-singing role. A warm, charismatic and engaging storyteller; omniscient but not overpowering. A good-natured curmudgeon with a deadpan sense of humor, Jean focuses the action, keeps the story moving and holds the audiences' attention with his presence and spark.
- Ralphie - 9, going on 10 (may be played by a 9 to 12 year old), male presenting, unchanged Alto voice with belt. Cute and winsome, but not precious. Bright, but not precocious - he’s a bit mischievous and rascally but with a twinkle in his eye. A very strong singer.
- Mother - 30s to 40s, female presenting, mezzo. More in charge of the family than the Old Man is, but she would never let him know it. She is warm and affable… at times a bit daffy… but not a pushover. A vibrant woman, she is always busy, especially anytime she’s in the kitchen. She is the secret engine that keeps the family running, keeping the household together with an impressive balancing act.
- The Old Man - 30s to 40s, male presenting, Bari-Tenor. He’s a man with a good heart, though it is buried beneath a sometimes gruff (and rough) exterior. He’s a devoted husband and father who loves his family but doesn’t overtly show it. He usually expects the worst but is capable of excitement if the situation warrants (though it usually doesn’t). In his moments of fantasy, he is transformed from his usual grumbling blue-collar self to a true song and dance man.
- Randy - 7 to 8 (may be played by a 7 to 10 year old), male presenting, unchanged Alto voice with belt. Ralphie’s younger brother. Cute, cuddly and whiny. Admires Ralph but won’t admit it. He’s fairly annoying, but he’s still lovable – not a brat. Strong dancer.
- Miss Shields/Ensemble - Mid 30s to late 50s, female presenting, mezzo/belter. The local elementary school teacher. A seemingly stereotypical 1940s educator – prim and proper. Stern when necessary, though warm – and even humorous – when the situation merits it. In Ralph’s fantasy, she becomes a dynamic, show-stopping, brassy belter and tapper – a force to be reckoned with.
- Santa/Ensemble - 30+, male presenting, Baritone. The Santa Claus at Higbee’s Department Store is decidedly unlike the typical “Jolly Old Elf” of legend and lore. Ill-tempered and slightly inebriated, he is unhappy with his job. He dismisses each child as quickly as possible in an attempt to put an end to the day and, perhaps, head for the nearest “watering hole.”
- Adult Ensemble - The adult ensemble members will play multiple roles. All must be strong singers and dancers.
- Youth Ensemble - The youth ensemble members (age 9-15) will play Ralphie’s classmates and other roles. All must be strong singers and dancers. There are two featured roles for pre-teens/teens.

When the curator of the Louvre is found murdered under mysterious circumstances, symbologist Robert Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Neveu are thrust into an investigation that quickly unravels into a deadly conspiracy. NOTE: This show is very physical and several roles will require stage combat.
SEEKING:
- Robert Langdon - 40s, male presenting. An American scholar of symbology, steeped in art and religious studies. An ordinary, intelligent man who has been thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
- Sophie - 20s, female presenting. A French cryptologist who works for the Paris police. Her grandfather’s murder sets off a series of events that lead her to uncover secrets about her family. Intelligent and empathetic, but someone who is not afraid to take action when she needs to.
- Silas - 20s-40s, male presenting. A monk who was bullied as a child and has become a religious zealot. He is an assassin and willing to do anything to serve the Opus Dei order. NOTE: This actor will be required to simulate self-flagellation on stage, shirtless.
- Jacques Saunière - 60+, male presenting. A French museum curator and scholar. Sophie’s grandfather and a Da Vinci expert, brilliant but secretive.
- Bezu Fache - 40+, male presenting. A veteran French detective who is convinced Robert is a murderer. Smart enough to listen to his colleagues and admit when he is wrong.
- Sir Leigh Teabing - 60+, male presenting. A wealthy British eccentric and scholar. A colleague of Robert’s who has unique theories about The Holy Grail and his obsession drives him to great lengths. He uses a cane or forearm crutches to walk, although no specific mobility issue is directly referenced in the story.
- Collet / Church Volunteer - 30+, female presenting. Collet is a French police officer working for Fache. The Church Volunteer is British and works at the Temple Church in London. Doubles as various non-speaking roles.
- Sister Sandrine / Marie - 50+, female presenting. Sister Sandrine is a French nun who has a run-in with Silas. She has a sympathetic heart, but is not a fool. Marie is Sophie’s grandmother, a French woman who Sophie had long thought to be dead. Doubles as various non-speaking roles.
- Remy / British Police Officer - 20+, male presenting. Remy is an ex-con now working as Sir Leigh Teabing’s butler, as well as his eyes, ears and bodyguard. Doubles as a British Police Officer and various non-speaking roles.
- Vernet / Docent - 30+, female presenting. Vernet is a French bank manager, who is also connected to Opus Dei. The Docent works at Westminster Abbey in London. Doubles various non-speaking roles.
