Director: Brett Mutter

Opening: July 16, 2026
Closing: August 23, 2026

Seeking roles:

CHRIS: (Any gender, 30–45, any ethnicity) The head of the company. High-status clown. Rigid, uptight, everything really matters. Director of the play and plays Inspector Carter. A nerve-wracking and exciting night; their pain is evident and worsens with audience laughter. Equal amounts of contempt for fellow actors and the audience. RP accent.

ROBERT: (Male-presenting, 30–45, any ethnicity) A member of the company, plays Thomas Colleymoore. Wants to be Richard Burton; declamatory style. Unaware of others, never learns from mistakes. Power struggle with Chris over presidency of the Cornley Poly Drama Society. Strong vocal power. RP accent.

DENNIS: (Any gender, 25–50, any ethnicity) A member of the company, plays Perkins, Charles’ butler. Not particularly interested in theatre but wants friends. Audience laughter is agony. Slightly oblivious but understands when wrong. RP accent.

SANDRA: (Female-presenting, 25–35, any ethnicity) A member of the company, plays Florence Colleymoore. Vain, huge ego, wants to be loved and to go to Hollywood. Will hurt anyone in her way but stays on good terms with those who can help (like the director). Very physical role. This role may appear in less than full costume with some underwear revealed (not prurient; comic). RP accent.

MAX: (Male-presenting, 25–35, any ethnicity) A member of the company, plays Cecil Haversham/Arthur the Gardner. Never been on stage before; follows directions exactly. Breaks the fourth wall when he gets a laugh. Childlike and naïve. RP accent.

JONATHAN: (Male-presenting, 25–55, any ethnicity) A member of the company, plays Charles Haversham, the deceased. Sees himself as James Bond-type; excited and having fun, not naïve. Technically has to drive the show. Very physical role. RP accent.

ANNIE: (Female-presenting, 25–40, any ethnicity) The company stage manager. Largest character journey: initially terrified of acting, must step in when Sandra is indisposed. Terror turns to joy then fury; grows considerably. Standard American accent.

TREVOR: (Male-presenting, 25–45, any ethnicity) Company lighting and sound operator. Wants to get on with the show; curmudgeonly, doesn't care for actors. Easily distracted and engages with the audience. Forced to act when things go sideways; hates acting. Standard American accent.
