SEEKING:

DONNY NOVITSKI: 20 - 30 years old, male-identifying, Baritone/Tenor (B-flat 2 - B-flat 4), a piano and accordion prodigy, passionate about swing music and writing his own songs, elusive star quality carrying dark weight of wartime experiences.

JULIA TROJAN: 20 - 30 years old, female-identifying, Soprano with strong belt (G3 - F-sharp 5), a gifted singer without the drive to be a star, smart, honest, natural ability to simply tell the truth when singing, emotionally translucent.

MRS. JUNE ADAMS: 45 - 55 years old, female-identifying, Alto (G3 - B4), Julia’s mother and a woman of modest means, nervous anxiety with a quirky sense of humor, grounded honesty when it comes to Julia’s happiness.

WAYNE WRIGHT: 20 - 30 years old, male-identifying, High Baritone (C3 - B-flat 4), gifted jazz trombone player and a veteran Marine Lieutenant, severe case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, carries enormous tension in his body and mind and maintains an aloofness that hides his emotional turmoil, intimidating in his silence.

JIMMY CAMPBELL: 20 - 30 years old, male-identifying, Baritone (C3 - G-sharp 4), gifted jazz reed player (predominantly saxophone and clarinet), bookish, thin, well put together, studying law after returning from the Navy, careful and guarded personality, fiercely loyal to Donny and the band. While the text never gives him away, Jimmy is privately gay and committed to fighting injustices in whatever ways he can.

JOHNNY SIMPSON: 20 - 30 years old, male-identifying, High Baritone (B2 - G-sharp 4), drumming phenomenon, returning Army Private, suffers from severe back pain after three surgeries and therefore has become reliant on pain medication, shows signs of traumatic brain injury with memory loss, almost childlike and gentle personality.

DAVY ZLATIC: Late 20s - 40 years old, male-identifying, wiz on upright bass, recent Army veteran who served in the European theater and liberated Dachau, modeled heavily on Shakespeare’s lovable Falstaff, big man of big appetites, drinks to no end, playing the clown but ultimately the protector.

NICK RADEL: Late 20s - 40 years old, male-identifying, genius trumpet player, recent Army veteran who spent the last three months of the European battles in a German prisoner-of-war camp, desperate for career and sense of personal security, outrageously confident in his musical talents, defensive of his deserved credit and compensation, has not been able to stop fighting for his life every day since returning home, sometimes hard to be a team player.

JEAN ANN RYAN: Mid 30s - Late 50 years old, female-identifying, warm Alto, glamorous local radio personality, prides herself on being the voice of several of WTAM Radio’s popular programs, believes herself to be more worldly and sophisticated than she likely is, a voice that recalls Judy Garland and Kate Smith.
