Equity actors for roles in Actors' Playhouse's 2025-26 Season (See breakdown).

PREPARATION

For Musicals: Please prepare two short contrasting song selections, bringing sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. No a cappella singing or singing to playback.
For Plays: Please prepare two contrasting one-minute monologues or one two-minute monologue. All actors please bring a copy of your headshot and resume.

THE SPITFIRE GRILL

SEEKING:

PERCY TALBOTT - Early twenties. Pretty, if a bit rough-edged, her face declares the strength of her youth and a sadness beyond her years. Her accent has a southern Appalachian cadence. Strong folk/country belt to “D,” some head voice required.

HANNAH FERGUSON - About seventy. A gray-haired, flinty woman with a toughness that belies her years and a short, no-nonsense manner bordering on the bitter. Mezzo/alto chest range.

SHELBY THORPE - Mid-thirties. A plain, soft-faced creature with a shy, almost ethereal manner. Shimmering folk soprano with strong high belt to “D.”

CALEB THORPE - Early forties. Out-of-work foreman of the stone quarry. Earnest but frustrated working man clinging to a past he’s unable to recreate. Fervid, solid folk/rock voice (Top “G”).

SHERIFF JOE SUTTER - Mid/late twenties. A young small-town policeman with restless intensity and a deep undercurrent of regret for unfulfilled dreams. Strong folk tenor to a “G” (touches an “A”).

EFFY KRAYNECK - Fifties. Postmistress and busybody, a woman whose prying eyes and sharp tongue serve as a protective shield for a lonely life. Solid singer in mezzo/alto chest range (carries close harmony).

THE VISITOR - Mid-forties. A mysterious figure who never speaks. Powerful eyes and a very strong sense of his body.

MAN OF LA MANCHA

SEEKING:

DON QUIXOTE/MIGUEL DE CERVANTES - (40s-50s, Baritone) Tremendous depth and a heroic baritone voice; doubles as the writer Cervantes who is a poet, an unconventional thinker, and a restless spirit; as Quixote, he is the “foolish knight” who believes chivalry is alive. (Vocal Range: B2-E4)

SANCHO PANZA/MANSERVANT - (30s-40s, Tenor) Doubles as Cervantes’ manservant and Quixote’s sidekick Sancho; he is funny, has a light-hearted spirit, and has a deep and true kindness; his essence is that of caretaker; Depth and subtlety; Sings well, but can have comic voice. (Vocal Range: C3-A4)

ALDONZA - (30s-40s, Soprano) Has tremendous singing ability with a gutsy belt to a high A; Aldonza is a “savage, dark alley cat”; she is defensive, defiant, and a survivor; she is also wry; however, beneath her tough exterior is a woman with a noble heart who desperately wants to be loved. (Vocal range: Ab3-Ab5)

PADRE - (30s-40s, Tenor) a kind but passive religious leader; he is well-intentioned, but not strong enough to stand fully behind his beliefs; he’s a pleaser, but he has a soul and a heart; a lyrical tenor voice. (Vocal Range: C3-G4)

THE GOVERNOR/THE INNKEEPER - (40s-60s, Bass) The Governor is the leader of the inmate society in the prison. He is a powerful man who oversees Cervantes’ trial. As the Innkeeper he is skeptical of Don Quixote but kind – a gentle giant. (Vocal Range: G2-C#4)

THE DUKE/DR. CARRASCO - (40s-50s, Baritone) The Duke is a man of “breeding, intelligence, logic”; he is analytical and scientific; he can also be arrogant because he’s usually the smartest person in the room; in this version, he will be a foil to Quixote; feels like a thoughtful leading man. (Vocal Range: C3-Db4)

MARIA - (40s-60s, chorus singing only) The exasperated wife of the Innkeeper. She sees, and expects the worst of all who enter the inn; especially Quixote.

ANTONIA - (20s-40s, Soprano) Quixote’s niece and Dr. Carrasco’s fiancée. A seemingly sweet and caring young woman, but she actually cares more about her needs than her uncle. (Vocal Range: C4-F5)

HOUSEKEEPER - (50s-60s, Mezzo) Quixote’s housekeeper. She is not thrilled to be working for a man whom she considers to be mad. (Vocal Range: F3-F5)

PEDRO - (30s-50s, Baritone) Rough, ruthless, head muleteer (Vocal Range: D3-D4)

ANSELMO - (20s-50s, Tenor) Rough muleteer, sings “Little Bird” (Vocal Range: A3-F#4)

JOSE, TENORIO, PACO and JUAN - (20s-50s, chorus singing only) Other muleteers of all shapes and sizes, athletic, must sing and dance well.

THE BARBER - (40s–60s, Tenor) He travels the countryside and peddles shaves. He is known by everyone. Comic character (Vocal Range: D3-G4)

FERMINA/MOORISH GIRL - (20s, chorus singing only) A servant girl. Dancer. Provocative jazz/rhythmic dance. Flamenco dancer. Doubles as Moorish dancer.

GUITAR PLAYER - (20s-50s, chorus singing only) One of the muleteers who plays the guitar.

CAPTAIN OF THE INQUISITION - (30s-60s, non-singing)

DEAR EVAN HANSEN

SEEKING:

EVAN HANSEN - Early 20s, Pop Tenor G2-B4, A high school senior with social anxiety. He is assigned by his therapist to write letters to himself about why each day will be good, which becomes the catalyst for the plot of the story.

HEIDI HANSEN - Late 30s–40s, Pop Alto F3-Eb5, Evan's mother, a nurse's aide who attends paralegal school at night, often leaving Evan on his own as a result.

CONNOR MURPHY - Early 20s, Pop Bari/Tenor G2-G4, A classmate of Evan and high school senior who, like Evan, is also a social outcast with no friends, and a frequent drug user, getting high to cope with his aggressive and violent tendencies. Connor eventually takes his own life during Act 1. His ghost appears in Evan's mind throughout the rest of the musical.

ZOE MURPHY - Early 20s, Pop Soprano F3-E5, Connor's younger sister and Evan's longtime crush. She was never close to Connor, even hated him and thought he was a monster, but wishes she had known him better and turns to Evan after he lies and says he was friends with Connor.

CYNTHIA MURPHY - Late 30s–40s, Pop Soprano F#3-E5, Connor and Zoe's stay-at-home mother. She is constantly trying to keep her fragile family from falling apart but is often unsuccessful.

LARRY MURPHY - Late 30s–40s, Pop Bari/Tenor F#2-G4, Connor and Zoe's busy and distant father.

ALANA BECK - Early 20s, Pop Soprano F3-E5, Evan's earnest but melodramatic classmate. She is constantly looking for academic and extracurricular activities to boost her collegiate chances.

JARED KLEINMAN - Early 20s, Pop Tenor A2-B4, Evan's droll and sarcastic friend. He helps Evan and Alana found The Connor Project.

DIAL M FOR MURDER

SEEKING:

MARGOT WENDICE - 30s–40s English, The charming, naïve, and wealthy wife of Tony, Margot has no idea that Tony knows of her past affair with Max, nor does she suspect that Tony is planning to murder her.

MAXINE HADLEY - 30s–40s American, An American murder mystery writer, Maxine had an affair with Margot during the time Tony was playing professional tennis tournaments in America. She is still in love with Margot and comes to visit the couple in London.

TONY WENDICE - 30s–40s English, Margot’s husband, Tony is a former professional tennis player who married Margot for her money. He is selfish and arrogant and has an elaborate scheme to murder Margot because of jealousy over a past affair between Margot and Max.

LESGATE - 30s–40s English, An old schoolmate of Tony’s and a convicted criminal, Lesgate is now being blackmailed by Tony into murdering Margot. He seems willing to do anything for money.

INSPECTOR HUBBARD - 40s–50s English, A Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Hubbard is thorough and observant, and he soon becomes suspicious of Tony's actions. Hubbard is a bit eccentric, but thoughtful and thorough.

RICHARD DREYFUSS - 20s–30s, a young American actor. In Jaws, he portrayed Matt Hooper, a marine biologist hired by Martin Brody.

ROY SCHNEIDER - 30s–40s, an American actor. In Jaws, he portrayed police chief Martin Brody.

ROBERT SHAW - 40s, an English actor and writer. In Jaws, he portrayed Quint, a shark hunter and captain of the Orca.
