NOTE: Wheelock Family Theatre at Boston University, as an Equal Opportunity Employer, recognizes the need for expanding the participation of artists who have been historically underrepresented on stage due to race, ethnicity, disability, gender expression, and sexual orientation. We endeavor to cast these individuals in roles where race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or the presence or absence of a disability is not germane and in which their identities align with those of a character.
Most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns. However limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.
Wheelock Family Theatre pledges to produce and celebrate theater that is representative of, and centers characters as well as actors who share the diverse and intersectional identities as those that exist within our audiences. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide.
ANNIE | A tough streetwise kid who is vulnerable when she thinks she might lose what has become most important to her: a newfound “family” who loves her.
THE ORPHANS | A group of girls who are trapped in Hannigan’s orphanage hoping, dreaming, for a home of their own.
MOLLY | The youngest orphan. Annie’s best friend
PEPPER | The toughest orphan.
DUFFY | The most mature of all the orphans
KATE | The shyest orphan.
TESSIE | The most emotional orphan
JULY | The quietest orphan.
4 additional performers will be cast as orphans.
OLIVER WARBUCKS - CAST | A powerful, self-assured billionaire who always has his mind on business. While sometimes gruff and abrupt he has a kind heart. This role is cast but seeking an understudy.
MISS HANNIGAN | The orphanage matron. Her distaste for her job and the children is obvious in everything she does. However, deep down, very deep down, she cares.
GRACE FARRELL | The loyal and very understanding private secretary to Oliver Warbucks. She perfectly balances running a business and caring for Annie.
ROOSTER HANNIGAN | The flashy and self-assured brother of Miss Hannigan. A gambler, every move he makes is sly and deceiving.
LILY ST. REGIS | The easily distractible and equally as greedy girlfriend of Rooster.
ENSEMBLE | An ensemble of 11, consisting of adults and teen performers, will play a variety of roles including citizens of New York City and Hooverville, servants in the Warbucks household, radio personalities, the President of the United States and his cabinet and others. Ensemble Doubling can be found on our website.
