BREAKDOWN

ALICE IN NEVERLAND

SEEKING:

[Alice] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary), Any ethnicity. Mid 20s to mid 30s. Mezzo (F#3-D#5). Once full of joy as a child in Wonderland, Alice is now an adult trapped in a bleak life. Longing to recapture her lost sense of wonder and adventure, she leaps into another unimaginable world, where she is forced to confront who she is and what she truly wants in life. Alice is intelligent and imaginative, with her quirky sense of humor and vulnerability at her core. Her journey is learning to stop chasing the past and embrace the present.

[Young Alice] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary), Any ethnicity. 10-13 years old (reads young). (A3-C5). Bright, curious, and full of wonder, Young Alice represents the innocence of childhood and sets the tone for the journey ahead. She embodies the joy and imagination that Adult Alice longs to reclaim.

[James] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Any ethnicity. Early 30s to early 40s. Baritone (G2-G#4). Charismatic, roguish pirate with swagger and dry wit. Known to his crew as Swordfish, he’s brash and ambitious, but meeting Alice awakens feelings he’s never allowed himself before. He wrestles with whether love is worth more than his lifelong quest for power. Requires charm, chemistry with Alice, and depth to chart his transformation into the iconic Captain Hook.

[Peter Pan] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Any ethnicity. 18+ to play 14-15. Tenor (Bb2-G4). Mischievous, energetic, and boyish, but beneath the bravado lies deep abandonment wounds from his mother. Subconsciously drawn to Alice as a mother figure, his desperation and jealousy push him toward becoming an antagonist. Athletic, with youthful physicality and strong movement skills.

[Tinker Bell] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary). Any ethnicity. 16-24. Mezzo (Bb3-C5). A worker fairy with low self-esteem, masking her insecurity with jealousy, sarcasm, and sharp wit. Desperate for Peter’s approval, she lashes out but ultimately undergoes a powerful and vulnerable transformation toward self-belief.

[Smee] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Any ethnicity. 30s-60s. Tenor or Baritone (B2-A4). James Hook’s bumbling but big-hearted crewmate, providing levity and warmth. Loyal yet easily flustered, he dreams of a quieter life beyond piracy. Comic timing essential.

[The Queen of Hearts] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary). Any ethnicity. 40s-60s. Alto (F#3-E5). The Queen of Hearts oversees wonderland with a commanding presence and theatrical flair. Both regal and unhinged, she has fabricated a world that perfectly captures her childhood, but is it possible to maintain the shiny facade? While balancing menace with allure, she offers Alice the temptation of eternal childhood, testing her final resolve.
