SYLVIA by A. R. Gurney. Dir: Harriet Power. 1st reh: 8//16/11. Runs 9/6-10/2. May extend by one week.

Greg, a burnt-out baby-boomer in midlife crisis, instead of choosing the stereotypical path of having an affair or buying a sports car, adopts a stray dog, a mutt named Sylvia (played by a female actor). Greg is happy. The dog is happy. But Greg's wife is most unhappy. She wants to travel, she wants to celebrate her newly empty nest, and she has no interest in having a dog or the responsibilities that come with it. A comedy and occasionally poignant drama that explores the complexities of conditional and unconditional love.

Greg:

Middle-aged (late 40s - early 60s). Middle-class. In midlife crisis. Married to Kate.

Kate:

Middle-aged. Direct, articulate. Involved in a new job, teaching middle-school Shakespeare. Married to Greg.

Sylvia:

20s-30s. The dog – played by a female actor. Enthusiastic, expressive. Actor must be able to embody a dog (flexibility, athleticism, movement skills necessary).

Tom / Phyllis / Leslie:

30s-40s. All played by one male actor. Vocal and physical range and humor important; must be able to play across gender.

THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP by Charles Ludlam. Dir: Harriet Power. 1st reh 10/4/11. Runs 10/25–11/20.

Lord Edgar of Mandacrest Mansion takes a new wife after his first wife meets her untimely demise in the jaws of a werewolf. But ... is his first wife really dead? What's the secret known only to the one-legged butler? And who is Irma Vep anyway? Charles Ludlam sends up Gothic melodrama and horror movies, yet asserts, "Our slant was actually to take things very seriously, especially focusing on those things held in low esteem by society and revaluing them, giving them new meaning, new worth, by changing their context."

Two Actors (either Two Men or One Man and One Woman):

These two actors play all eight characters. Essential: Supple, freewheeling physical and vocal skills, range, athleticism and sense of humor.

TIME StANDS STILL by Donald Margulies. Dir: Bud Martin. Co-production with Delaware Theatre Company (LORT, Wilmington DE). 1st reh (in DE): 12/27/11. Runs in DE 1/18/12 – 2/5/12. Runs at Act II 2/14/12 – 3/11/12.
