PREPARATION

Auditions will consist of reading selections from the script. A headshot and resume are required. Sides will be available at www.uptownplayers.org by March 4th and should be prepared for the audition. The playwright prefers you to be as off book as possible.

BREAKDOWN

Latrelle Williamson – 60s. A force. Controlling, strong, intimidating, but has a compassionate side. Mother of Ty and is evolving.

LaVonda Dupree – 60s. Fun-loving, foul-mouthed sister of Latrelle. Loves her gay nephew and rediscovers true love again.

Sissy Hickey – 70s. Chain-smoking, salt of the earth, beloved by all. Has been reading the entire Bible and takes on the church with Latrelle, willing to lose friends over devotion to her gay nephew

Noleta Nethercott – 50s. One big mess who has no censor and often says whatever she is thinking. Best friends with LaVonda, who finds love again after her divorce from G.W.

Brother Boy Ingram – 60s. A Tammy Wynette obsessed disgruntled drag queen who has his sights on The Rose Room. Has an innocent, trusting quality and is smitten by an escaped serial killer he is on the lam with.

Ty Williamson – early 40s. Latrelle’s handsome son who is a gay activist, madly in love with his husband Kyle, excited about being a new dad of twins. (Tasteful full rear nudity, no frontal)

Kyle – early 40s. Ty’s hot African-American husband. A designer who loves his husband and is excited about the news of their twins. (Tasteful full rear nudity, no frontal)

Wardell Owens – 60s+. A good ol’ boy guitar playing and singing cowboy who owns the local watering hole Bubba’s. Has carried a torch for LaVonda for decades.

G.W. Nethercott – 50’s+ -- An alcoholic permanently attached to a barstool at Bubba’s. As he pines for his only true love who met her demise by tripping over his wooden legs seventeen years ago, he finds himself jealous of his ex-wife, Noleta’s, new man Hardy.

Hardy – 30s, 40s – Tall, broad-shouldered, strong, muscled, strapping, hot-as-hell charmer who falls desperately in love with Noleta. (Rear-end hospital gown butt exposed.)

Juanita Bartlett – 60s, 70s. Bubba’s resident bar fly who stays drunk and in her own world. She is obsessed with the royal family.

Vera Lisso – 60s, 70s. Sissy’s best friend who wears her religion and her bigotry on her sleeve. She is an overweight woman who cashiers at The Corner Stop and is the head of The Anti-Equality Committee at Southside Baptist.

Leticia Bustamante – 40-60. Hispanic who takes a lot of abuse from Vera, but has some damn good comebacks. The actress playing this role will also play other town folks.

Rev. Jimmy Ray Brewton – The hot-as-hell sexy new preacher of Southside Baptist who holding an Anti-Equality Revival. Charming, a great speaker who a commanding presence.

Wilson Williamson – 60s. Latrelle’s ex-husband; Ty’s father. Married to his new trophy wife and is smack dab in the middle of a mid-life crisis. Believes the Bible about homosexuality, but cherry-picks when it comes to adultery.

Greta Waring-Williamson – 20s, 30s. Wilson’s new, hot trophy wife who is not the brightest bulb on the chandelier.
