Director's Note: The cast will be ethnically diverse singer-comedians who move well and are skilled in a slapstick style of broad comedy. A sense of humor is mandatory. Please be familiar with this show.
Age ranges and genders for some roles are not specified. This production concept is an itinerant company of actors presenting FORUM as part of their repertoire, like a 21st-century vaudeville troupe. In the script the authors note, “This is a scenario for vaudevillians.”
Prologus / Pseudolus: Any gender. Introduces the audience to the comedy. A Roman slave, owned by Hero, who seeks to win his freedom. Quick-witted, scheming, childlike spirit. A vaudevillian. Vocal range: top A4 – bottom A2.
Proteans (3): Any gender. Extremely versatile. Will play Romans, Soldiers and all the Courtesans (Gymnasia, Tintinabula, Vibrata, The Geminae, Panacea). Circus skills (tumbling, juggling, balancing) a plus. The Proteans are extremely important to this production.
