BREAKDOWN

A CHORUS LINE CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS

NOTE: A CHORUS LINE requires a cast totally comprised of triple threats…excellent dancers who sing very well and have the acting chops to give distinct life to these 19 very different people. Due to our very limited rehearsal time, actively seeking actors who have done the show with the original Michael Bennett choreography.

Zach:
Male. The director and choreographer of the show for which the dancers are auditioning. He is a stage veteran and thus can be curt and harsh, but he is revealed to be a caring and empathetic man who truly grows to care about these dancers. 35-48

Larry:
Zach’s assistant…teaches and demonstrates the audition dances. Needs to be an incredible dancer, as he is the standard to which all of the auditioning dancers are held. 25+

Al :
From the Bronx. Street tough, macho, and newly married to Kristine; very protective. Strong singer, as he is the contrast to the non-singing Kristine in “Sing.” 28+.

Bebe:
Insecure about her looks and tries to be funny to cover her insecurities. Sings the middle harmony in “At the Ballet.” 18-25.

Bobby:
Flamboyant, hilarious, eccentric. Excellent comic actor. 25+.

Cassie:
Returning to the chorus after years of being a featured performer. A true triple threat performer, clearly a “star” Sings “The Music and the Mirror.” 30-35.

Connie Wong:
Funny and energetic little spitfire…born in Chinatown, New York, older than she looks. No taller than 5’

Diana:
streetwise Latina…a determined and athletic dancer from the Bronx. Powerful mezzo belt…sings “Nothing”. 22-30.

Don:
All-American ladies’ man, married, and into cars, money, and women. 25+

Gregory:
Sassy, bitchy queen. Smart, self-assured, very “East Side” 32

Judy:
Funny, gawky, nervous. Warm and hopeful. Ideally seeking a taller dancer. 32

Kristine:
Al’s scatter-brained wife who can’t sing… awkward, anxious and hilarious. She “speaks” the song “Sing,” but needs to actually be a singer in the ensemble numbers of the show. 20-25.

Maggie:
A sweetheart, little sister type. Dreamer. Seeking an incredibly warm singer with a strong belt up to E natural for the soaring climax of “At the Ballet.” 20-25

Mark:
Uber-optimistic first-timer…completely naïve but charming all-American kid. 18

Mike:
Aggressive, determined, cocky, sure of himself…a sexy and likable flirt. Ideally has acrobatic skills (round off -back handspring or back tuck is best) 22-28.

Paul:
Introverted and slightly insecure but loves performing….from Spanish Harlem, New York. An excellent actor who can deliver Paul’s monologue with the necessarily raw and vulnerable honesty required. 22-30

Richie:
African-American; enthusiastic, cool and very funny. Likable and laid back. 22-30

Sheila:
Oldest dancer on the line. Confident, brassy, sexy, bitchy, and always “on” Sings the low harmony in “At the Ballet.” 30

Val:
Sexy, sassy, funny. A brazen, direct, attention-seeker from Vermont proud of the plastic surgery that now gets her jobs. Sings “Dance 10, Looks 3.” 25+
