BARACK OBAMA - Black Male - 30s-40s - Tenor/Baritone - Bb2-A4 - R&B/Gospel sound - Dancing ability. “OBAMA” is full of swagger, yet also restraint. Has a command of the room, but also a sense of vulnerability. No need for an impression. Just an essence.
MICHELLE OBAMA - Black Female - 30s-40s - Soprano/Mezzo Soprano - D3-G5 - R&B/Gospel sound - Dancing ability. “MICHELLE” is the picture of grace and class, with a South Side of Chicago edge. Brilliant, tough, regal yet relatable - Barack may be the most powerful man in the world, but at home, everyone knows Michelle runs the place.
JOE BIDEN - White Male - 30s-Early 50s - Tenor - C3-E4 - R&B falsetto chops & dancing ability. Charming, handsome, clueless, loyal. “BIDEN” has a pure heart and a sputtering mind. A moonwalking, R&B crooning, electrifying buffoon, Biden serves as the Master of Ceremonies, telling the story of Obama from his own hazy recollection.
HILLARY CLINTON and others - White Female - 30s & 40s - Soprano - C4-G5. HILLARY is smart, tough, and absolutely at her wit's end. Both beleaguered and hopeful, Hillary's pluckiness is matched only by her no-longer-gives-a-f**k-i-ness. Will Double as - Fox News Blonde Lady, Skeptic #2 (Karen), Soprano Believer, Angela Merkel, Satan.
SARAH PALIN and others - White Female - Mid 20s-Early 40s - Soprano/Mezzo Soprano - A3-A5 - An excellent dancer and a big vocal range that can pull off a heavy metal style vocal. PALIN is charismatic and completely oblivious - a sexy Librarian who hates books - confident in her ignorance, with clueless charm and no adherence to punctuation. Not looking for a Palin impression, per se, but must understand the cadence and quirks of Sarah's unique speaking style. Will double as - Fox News Blonde Lady, Nancy Pelosi, Nun, Alto Believer.
MITCH MCCONNELL and others - White Male - 40s-70s - Tenor/Baritone - Able to rap. Dancing/movement ability a big plus. Excellent comedic timing and big presence. “McCONNELL” is Obama's chief antagonist and the delightfully craven leader of W.H.A.M. (White.Hetero.Affluent.Men). Unlike real-life Mitch McConnell, who rarely speaks, our Mitch McConnell talks tons of shit. Mitch raps, he taunts, he preaches, and he slithers with glee. Will double as - Skeptic #1.
HERMAN CAIN and others - Black Male - 30s-50s - Baritone/Tenor - R&B/Gospel Sound - Comic timing necessary. Improv/riffing ability a plus. HERMAN CAIN is the lone Black Republican member of W.H.A.M. (White.Hetero.Affluent.Men). Herman is a fish out of water, never to be accepted by his Republican brethren, who goes from a slow simmer to an overflowing boil, raging against the machine as he (re)discovers his Black roots. Will double as - Ulysses S. Grant, Bass Believer.
LINDSEY GRAHAM and others - White Male - 30s-50s - Tenor - G3-Ab4 - Has comedic versatility, part Southern Gentleman part Southern Belle, Lindsey has an “Aw, shucks” veneer with a snippy high-school mean girl underneath. Will double as - Co-Exist Lady, Tenor Believer, My Pillow Guy.
TED CRUZ and others - Latino/White - 30s-50s - Tenor/Baritone - Has rapping ability. Ted is a sniveling quick-rapping 80's movie villain. Ted desperately wants to be liked, but unfortunately for Ted, he is an objectively objectionable human being. In fact, Ted is despised by all sides of the aisle, single-handedly uniting this divided nation. Will double as - Skeptic #3.
VOICE OF THE PEOPLE / MICHELLE UNDERSTUDY - Black Female - 20s-40s - Mezzo Soprano/Alto - F3-C5 - R&B/Gospel Sound. A powerhouse singer with commanding presence. “VOICE OF THE PEOPLE” is the first voice you hear in the entire show, the first voice you hear in Act 2, and the first voice you hear in the Finale. In the same way that Biden narrates the show through dialogue, Voice of the People anchors the show through song. “MICHELLE (U.S.)” is the picture of grace and class, with a South Side of Chicago edge. Brilliant, tough, regal yet relatable - Barack may be the most powerful man in the world, but at home, everyone knows Michelle runs the place.
BROTHER ABE LINCOLN and others / OBAMA UNDERSTUDY - Black Male - 30s-40s - Tenor/Baritone - Bb2-A4 - R&B/Gospel Sound. Dancing ability. BROTHER ABE LINCOLN is President Abraham Lincoln brought back to life, with swagger and bravado, who also happens to be Black. DARIUS is Obama's assistant/bodyman. Darius' weakness is his total lack of professionalism, but his strength is that he's Michelle's cousin who can't be fired. OBAMA (U.S.) is full of swagger, yet also restraint. Has a command of the room, but also a sense of vulnerability. No need for an impression. Just an essence.
