Miners Alley Playhouse continues their 2011 season with The Night of the Iguana, September 9 through October 23.  Defrocked Reverend T. Lawrence Shannon now scrapes out a living as a tour guide in Mexico . On the verge of a mental collapse, he abducts his tour group to a crumbling seaside hotel on The Edge of the jungle. As a fierce tropical storm rolls in, Shannon must wrestle with the passions of the women around him-the wrath of a Texas school teacher, the advances of a lustful teenager, and the jealousies of the widowed hotel owner-as he seeks solace with a new arrival, a gentle spinster traveling with her grandfather-the world's oldest living poet. Some critics see this as Mr. Williams' last great work, his ability to expose the heart of the human condition is profoundly evident in this play.

The cast, under the direction of Rick Bernstein, includes Rhonda Brown (Maxine Faulk), Cajardo Lindsey (T. Lawrence Shannon), Paige L. Larson (Hannah Jelkes), Sam Gilstrap (Pedro),  Debra Shirley (Judith Fellows), Roger Simon (Jonathan Coffin) and Verl Hite (Hank/Jake). Rounding out the cast are Kenzie Kilroy, Kellie Rae Rockey, Marisa Rydzy and Mark Lively.
 
Thomas Lanier " Tennessee " Williams III was an American writer who worked principally as a playwright in the American theater. He also wrote short stories, novels, poetry, essays, screenplays and a volume of memoirs. His professional career lasted from the mid 1930s until his death in 1983, and saw the creation of many plays that are regarded as classics of the American stage. Williams adapted much of his best known work for the cinema.  Williams received virtually all of the top theatrical awards for his works of drama, including a Tony Award for best play for The Rose Tattoo (1951) and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for A Streetcar Named Desire (1948) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1955). In 1980 he was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter and is today acknowledged as one of the most accomplished playwrights in the history of English speaking theater.

Miners Alley Playhouse presents The Night of the Iguana September 9 through October 23. Performance dates are Fridays and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays 6 p.m.; (Sunday, October 23 is at 2 p.m.; no 6 p.m. performance that day).  On Saturday, September 17, Miners Alley holds its "Second Saturday Members Appreciation Night", a conversation with the cast and crew after the performance.   Tickets are available by calling 303-935-3044 or online at minersalley.com.
