Yale School of Drama Closes Jib 1/28

By:

YALE SCHOOL OF DRAMA (James Bundy, Dean; Victoria Nolan, Deputy Dean) presents Jib, written and directed by Michael McQuilken, January 22-28 at the Iseman Theater (1156 Chapel Street, New Haven).

Jib features choreography by Jennifer Harrison Newman and Christy Lee Saunders, sets and projections by Matthew Saunders, costumes by Mark Nagle, lights by Yi Zhao, sound by Chad Raines, dramaturgy by Sunder Ganglani, and stage management by Catherine Costanzo

The cast includes Matt Biagini, Lucas Dixon, Chris Henry, Sarah Lasley, Michael Place, Blake Segal, Sarah Sokolovic, JillIan Taylor, Emily Trask, and Adina Verson.

Tracing the way inspiration flows through time and bodies, life and death, Jib follows four lost souls who become guided by music and its infinite ghosts. Although they will never meet, the lives of these strangers will merge as abandoned melodies drift between them unseen-one man's rhythm secretly shaking another man's bones.

Jib will be performed at the Iseman Theater, 1156 Chapel Street in New Haven. Seating is limited. The show opens Saturday, January 22 at 8pm and runs until January 28.  Tickets are $10- $25 and available online at drama.yale.edu, by phone at (203) 432-1234, and in person at the Box Office (1156 Chapel Street at York Street).

MICHAEL MCQUILKEN (DIRECTOR/FYE/PERCUSSIONIST) is a third-year MFA candidate at Yale School of Drama, where his directing and composing credits include Shakespeare's Othello (adapted with Tanya Dean) and House of Cards by Dipika Guha. For Yale Cabaret, he composed an original score for an ensemble-created performance of Russian fairy tales entitled Bones in the Basket, directed by Devin Brain, and he scored and directed his new adaptation of Skin Tight by Gary Henderson. His original play with music and projections, A Day in Dig Nation (co-written with Tommy Smith), has toured through Amsterdam, Prague, Boston, Seattle, Edinburgh, and New York. While at Yale, Michael also scored Eve, a new short film by Sarah Lasley, and he wrote and recorded a full-length album of original songs entitled Celebritist under the band name The Few Moments. Prior to attending Yale School of Drama, Michael co-founded the Seattle-based theatre company Collaborator, with which he conceived, scored, co-wrote, and co-directed the musical Extropia, and wrote and directed Paper Airplane. While in Seattle, Michael also worked as a street performer, music teacher, and builder of found-object musical instruments. In 2003, he wrote and performed an original score for the world premiere of Joan Holden's Nickel and Dimed, directed by Bartlett Sher, for which he won a Garland Award for best composition following its run at The Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.
