The Return of 24!

Synopsis

They say all good things much come to an end. But great things always come back for more. With that, MadLab proudly announces the return of its infamous 24-hour theatre series. Come see the intrigue, the suspense, the terror, and of course, the hilarity. Over 30 actors, directors, playwrights, and technicians will assemble on Friday, November 4th to split randomly into teams and create six 10-minute plays in 24 hours time. Then, on November 5th at 8pm, MadLab will present all six plays to a packed house at MadLab Theatre at 227 N. 3rd Street. Don't miss what is guaranteed to be one of the most fun-filled nights of theatre in Columbus

The GCAC, OAC and The Columbus Foundation support MadLab throughout the year.

Andy Batt, producer of The Return of 24!, explains the return....

Why the Return?

The easy answer? It's been a while. Almost 2 years since our last 24 (or 48...or 12...) When closing the old MadLab, we used a 12-hour theatre project and a 48-hour theatre project to try to raise some money really fast....and it worked! In doing that, we crammed two of these type of shows into less than a month's time. When you couple that with all the renovation work we were doing on the new space at the time, we really burned ourselves out a bit. Now given that it's been a good bit of time, we wanted to do another one. The people have been hounding us to do one. Who are we to deny the will of the people?
How is this 24 different?

The biggest difference for this 24 is that it will actually be a "24". The last three of these type projects we have done have not been true 24s. We have done a 12 (same process, just in half the time) and a 48 (basically two 24s back to back.) We started doing 12s and 48s because the 24s just didn't seem challenging enough. We figured since it has been such a long time since we have done one, let's start off a bit slower.
Do you think it will be different in the new space?

I think as far as the audience is concerned, it will all seem about the same. For us, there will be a lot of things that will be different, and better! For one, we have so much more room. For a 24-hour theatre project you need about 30 people to get it all done. That's tough to do when you don't have a lot of backstage space. Actors can get smelly after rehearsing all day.

Anything else to add?

Buy your tickets now! We will likely sellout fast!
