Lincoln Theatre Continues 'Community Conversations Series' with Talk on COLUMBUS' CULTURAL HARLEM
Today, March 30, the Lincoln Theatre Association will host the Community Conversations Series event "Columbus' Cultural Harlem."
From 1900-40, Columbus became the epicenter of an African-American artistic explosion that crossed all genres and created a new social and cultural landscape. As part of this free series designed to generate discussion on a variety of interesting questions surrounding the community, this program will explore the 21st-century insurgence of socially and culturally conscious African-American art and its impact on the American canvas.
This 90-minute, multimedia presentation will include performance snippets and historic video excerpts interspersed with discussion from Dr. Ted McDaniel, professor of African-American music at The Ohio State University, and Jack Marchbanks, Lincoln Theatre Association board member and co-host of WCBE's "Jazz Sunday." The speakers will also serve as panelists in the Q&A session to follow.
"Columbus' Cultural Harlem" will be held in the Cardinal Health Ballroom of the Lincoln Theatre (769 E. Long St.) on Wednesday, March 30. Doors open at 5:30pm. The presentation begins at 6pm. Admission is free.
This program is made possible through the generous support of Donna and Larry James.
