Visual Arts Director

Full Time Position

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Description: Lead all visual art initiatives, including operations of the Reeves House, to inspire, expand community engagement, and leverage positive impact.

Salary Range: $30,000 – $40,000/year



JOB OVERVIEW

The Visual Arts Director (VAD) oversees all operations & business aspects of The Reeves House Visual Arts Center. The VAD reports to the Executive Director, providing the management necessary to promote operating excellence and continued growth of The Reeves House. The VAD will manage all Facilities and Cafe/Retail staff members, as well as any interns and volunteers for The Reeves House. The ideal candidate for this position will lead visual arts initiatives for The Reeves House and the community, setting a vision for growth and quality visual arts programming.



RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are current programs and projects that the VAD will coordinate:



Visual Arts Vision, Initiatives, and Programming (40%)

• Work closely with Executive Director to lead the development and execution of visual arts initiatives to advance, engage, and grow the community’s culture and economy through the Visual Arts. Initiatives and programs can initially include, but are not limited to: Gallery Exhibitions, Curation, and Programming, Local Artists groups and initiatives, partnerships with local organizations, local history exhibitions, Public Art initiatives, and event programming to leverage the Reeves House and visual art impact on the community.

• Develop season schedule for all Reeves House programming, including the development and administration of calendars and deadlines for each event. Provide strategic business, technical, and resource support to fundraising efforts.

• Develop and supervise exhibit budgets (artistic as well as facility needs).



Reeves House Operations Management & Vision (30%)

• Work closely with the Executive Director to lead development and implementation of decisions for The Reeves House operation and business objectives.

• Hire, contract, train and supervise, in consultation with staff, all Reeves House personnel including, but not limited to: staff, contractors, cafe/retail employees, volunteers, etc.

• Process, track and reconcile all Reeves House accounts payable and overhire/seasonal employee payroll.

• Support all departments in annual goals planning, periodic review and evaluation aligned with the strategic plan.

• Report on the operations, facilities, volunteer, rental, and retail systems to the Executive Director and in communication with the Board of Directors.



Facilities/Private Rental Events/Retail Functions (15%)

• Negotiate and supervise service contracts including janitorial, landscaping, maintenance, security system, and utilities.

• Oversee all Reeves House event rentals. This includes but is not limited to scheduling, rental policy development, fielding requests, meeting with prospects, coordinating client needs, and meeting rental income goals. Rental functions may require attendance, including night/weekend activity.

• Manage relationships with external vendors



Volunteer Coordination (15%)

• Develop a plan for volunteer recruitment and delegate to areas of need for art installations, exhibits, and events.

• Provide volunteer training on a regular basis to ensure success in event operations as well as community engagement.

• Facilitate clear communications throughout the execution of events and exhibits with staff and volunteers.



• Other Duties as Assigned



WORK SCHEDULE

Various work hours will be scheduled on an ongoing basis. Weekends and evenings will be required for this job.



QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably related to the visual arts & business management and/or non-profit experience.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, social media applications, and emerging media.

• Knowledge in Salesforce, Square, WordPress (preferred, but not required.)



Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Ability to think strategically and translate business objectives into recruitment strategies and tactics that will drive performance.

• Positive attitude regardless of situation.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under deadlines.

• Standing, walking, bending, some climbing, frequent use of hands, stooping and lifting is needed.

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.



The VAD will also participate in events that further the organization as a whole, particularly surrounding marketing, fundraising, and critical events. The VAD will also be utilized to disperse pressure amongst staff, an example being serving as “Staff on Duty” for events.
