Dominican University Performing Arts Center Presents STEP AFRIKA
Discover the world of stepping with Washington D.C.'s world-renowned group, Step Afrika! Called "electrifying talents" by The Washington Post, their high-energy performances integrate songs, storytelling, humor, and audience participation, making it a feast for both the eyes and ears.
Like a tap dance without shoes, or a band without instruments, stepping is percussive dance that uses kicks, stomps, claps and chants. Step Afrika! blends dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities, African traditional dance and influences from a variety of other dance and art forms. Their blend of technique, agility, and pure energy makes each performance unique and leaves the audience with their hearts pounding.
Founded in 1994 as the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping.
It now ranks as one of the top ten African American dance companies in the United States.
