Another Production Company Stages TOPDOG/UNDERDOG Reading Today

By:

Another Production Company will produce a staged play reading of Suzan-Lori Parks 'Pulitzer Prize winning play Topdog/Underdog. The play tells the darkly comic fable of Lincoln and Booth, two brothers whose names were given to them as a joke, foretelling a lifetime of sibling rivalry and resentment. The brothers, who have been abandoned by their parents and fallen through the cracks of our social service system, are haunted by their past and forced to confront the shattering reality of their future.

This is the second volume of Another Production Company's Words and Melodies series. Words and Melodies is a showcase of African-American drama and artistry from years past that is still relevant today. Volume one was entitled Songs in the Key of Stevie Wonder - a cabaret styled musical tribute to Stevie Wonder.

Words and Melodies Vol. 2: Suzan-Lori Parks' Topdog/Underdog was selected based on its word usage and melodic language that summons compassion for those who deal with a less than promising reality and future. In reflection of the play's subject matter, a portion of the ticket sales will go to benefit The Night Ministry's The Crib - an overnight youth shelter for people age 18 - 24 that addresses immediate housing. The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care and human connection to members of our community struggling with poverty or homelessness.

The cast features Raymond K. Cleveland, a Chicago native and co-artistic director of Another Production Company and Jovan King, a veteran of the United States Army and native of Yellow Springs, Ohio. Toma Tavares Langston, co-artistic director of Another Production Company will direct.

Topdog/Underdog opened on Broadway at the Ambassador Theatre on April 7, 2002. It was directed by Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe. The cast featured Jeffrey Wright as Lincoln, who received a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Play, and Mos Def as Booth. The play is the winner of the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Suzan-Lori Parks is the first African American female playwright to receive this honor.

Topdog/Underdog by Suzan-Lori Parks will be directed by Toma Tavares Langston and features Raymond K Cleveland and Jovan King for One Night Only! - tonight, September 25, 2013 at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $15 - Available at the Door or to RSVP, visit www.anothurproductionco.com. A Portion of the Ticket Sales will go to benefit: The Night Ministry - The Crib.

The Flat Iron Arts Building and Collaboraction's Pentagon Theater are located at 1579 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622. For more information, email Info@anothurproductionco.com or go to www.anothurproductionco.com.
