Gettysburg Community Theatre Presents THE KING AND I This Spring

Gettysburg Community Theatre, the non-profit 501c3 organization located in the original Elks Lodge building at 49 York Street within the first block of Lincoln Square in historic downtown Gettysburg, presents an all-youth cast production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic musical The King And I with special permission from the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization in NYC. The production will perform at GCT Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm, weekends April 15-May 1, 2016. Based on "Anna and the King of Siam" by Margaret Landon, with book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a dazzling score by Richard Rodgers, this musical tells the classic story of the English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son and their life at the Royal Palace in Bangkok. Anna has been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children. While they both retain their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in this unique and uplifting story of East meets West. The musical originally premiered, with Yul Brynner and Gertrude Lawrence in the leading roles, on March 29, 1951, at Broadway's St. James Theatre. It ran nearly three years, and has since had many tours and revivals, including the recent revival at Lincoln Center. Memorable songs include "Getting To Know You", "Whistle A Happy Tune", "Shall We Dance", and "Something Wonderful".

The GCT production is directed by Hans Schroeder, with vocal music direction by Kate Sainer, choreography by Chad-Alan Carr, and is being stage managed by Christina Hazlett. This production is especially different, because it features a cast made up entirely of children PreK-8th Grade. Last year's popular youth production of The Sound Of Music performed to packed houses and delighted audiences young and young at heart at the beauty of Rodgers & Hammerstein's musicals. The all-youth cast includes students from Adams and York counties including: Linden Amster, Kylie Biesecker, Hailey Brownley, Ellen Cadigan, Mac Carlson, Finn Clarke, Madison DiNello, Eliza Dreves, Winaida Flaherty, Madelyn Greco, Lucy Heaton, Kalia Hoedemaker, Liliana Hoedemaker, Benjamin Incaprera, Emma Kirk, Jordyn Keefauver, Keira Lee, Sara Miller, Katherine Murray, Madison Prin, Chloe Sainer, Parker Schroeder, and Brenna Yingling.

Tickets are $12 plus tax/fees for the limited reserved seating in the intimate 80 seat theatre at GCT and may be purchased online at the theatre's web site at www.GettysburgCommunityTheatre.org to pick your own seats or by calling 717-334-2692 with credit card to purchase what seats may be left available. GCT is fully accessible and has an ADA compliant ramp at the back of the building. Special seating is available for patrons using wheelchairs or requiring other assistance. Please inform the box office of any special needs when ordering tickets.
