The Secret Variety Society have announced another edition of their variety show featuring the comedian Matt Roper, singer-songwriter Sabrina Chap, stand-up magician Magic Brian and circus artist Miss Ekaterina at the Slipper Room-the house of varieties on the Lower East Side-this Wednesday, 25th October at 8pm. Described as "surreal, sublime and satirical", the Secret Variety Society is the Downtown artist collective that first formed last year for a series of intimate shows.

British-born variety performer Matt Roper first gained prominence among New York Theater audiences his portrayal of Chico Marx in I'll Say She Is: The Lost Marx Brothers Musical, which played to sell-out houses at the Connelly Theater. Presently leading the cast of Androboros: Villain of the State, America's first published play (Peculiar Works Project), Roper is known internationally for his alter-ego Wilfredo, the powerhouse musical comedy creation. A prototype of the term "neo-vaudevillian", Roper has two comedy albums, a short film and countless tours to his credit including Wilfredo's Wild Ride, which toured several East Coast cities earlier this year.

Brooklyn-based cabaret performer, pianist and singer-songwriter Sabrina Chap is the songstress whose work has seen her described by critics as "the ballad lyrics of Tom Waits, the onstage antics of Phyllis Diller and the voice of a whiskey angel". Noted for her electric live performances, she has graced some of the biggest stages and the smallest bar-rooms in the world, including Cafe de Paris (London), Theatre Bizarre (Detroit), The Lowry (Manchester), Spiegeltent (NYC with Bindlestiff Cirkus) and most recently Reykjavik Kabarett (Iceland). Her two albums Oompa! and We Are The Parade have been met with both public and critical acclaim.

Magic Brian has entertained all generations with his unique brand of comedy-magic and sideshow for over twenty years. He got his start in the Comedy Clubs and variety shows of New York City, before touring with the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. He has taken his solo show around the world, performing in eighteen countries and more than fifty cities. He has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, VH1 and Good Day New York, in addition to performing at the Edinburgh Festival, the Adelaide Fringe and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Russian-born circus artist Miss Ekaterina is a contortionist, aerialist and burlesque artist who trained as a rhythmic gymnast before becoming a member of the Russian National Team, competing successfully in several international championships. A former Miss Coney Island, her work has seen her climb out of a giant clam, float inside a snow globe on the lake at Greenwood Cemetery, serve drinks while backbending, and riding a motorcycle on a high wire. She has also appeared in Julie Taymor's Across the Universe.
