Birdland Jazz Club is pleased to announce their exciting line-up of unmatched talent for July 8 - July 14, 2013.

Birdland will kick-off their electrifying week of programming with the following acts:

July 8 (Monday) at 7PM
Stephanie J. Block

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is thrilled to announce the return of 2013 Tony nominee Stephanie J. Block, who will be performing two very special concerts on the historic stage. Stephanie J. Block has established herself as one of the most relevant and versatile voices in contemporary musical theatre. She received both a Drama Desk and TONY nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Alice Nutting/Edwin Drood in The Roundabout Theatre Company's production of The Mystery Of Edwin Drood. Other Broadway credits include Reno Sweeney in the 2011 Tony Award winning revival of Anything Goes and Judy Bernly (Drama Desk nom.) in 9 To 5: The Musical. She originated the roles of Grace O'Malley in The Pirate Queen and Liza Minnelli in The Boy From Oz (opposite Hugh Jackman). Ms. Block is best known for her portrayal as Elphaba in the Broadway production and first national tour of Wicked. Stephanie is most excited about her upcoming project, co-starring with Will Chase in Second Stage Theater's production of Little Miss Sunshine.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

Legendary Jazz Pianist Geoffrey Keezer's first solo project in 13 years pays homage to some of his favorite artists from legendary rock band Rush, Peter Gabriel and Alanis Morrisette to jazz greats Hank Jones, Christian McBride and Donald Brown.

For over fifty years, post-bop drummer Louis Hayes has been a catalyst for energetic, unrelenting swing in the role of bandleader as well as sideman for leaders including jazz titans Horace Silver, Cannonball Adderley and Oscar Peterson. One of the most recorded drummers in jazz history, Hayes has also contributed to iconic records by John Coltrane, Kenny Burrell, Freddie Hubbard, Hank Mobley, Tommy Flanagan, Cecil Taylor, McCoy Tyner, Ray Brown, Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon. Returning to Birdland this summer with his quintet, Louis Hayes is a must-see performer who lives in the present and continues to write new and exciting chapters in the pages of modern jazz drumming.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Centennial Band

The Birdland Big Band

Every Friday the "BBB" roars into action playing a thrilling and original mix of jazz, funk, Brazilian, Latin and world music for sold-out audiences. Featured weekly guest artists drop-in from television bands (David Letterman, Saturday Night Live) and pop music touring bands (Rob Thomas, Rod Stewart). Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte. After leading his late father's orchestra for many years, Arturo formed his own groups, from trio through orchestra, in order to explore his and other compositions in the panoply of Afro Latin music.
