Jonathan Poretz Brings Vintage Vegas to NYC
FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Jonathan Poretz in When Vegas Was VEGAS! on Tuesday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. The New York City native returns to his hometown for his Feinstein's/54 Below debut following a series of sold out engagements at Feinstein's at the Nikko in San Francisco, where Poretz now resides.
Backed by his swingin' mini big band, Poretz, who has toured the US and Europe in various productions as Frank Sinatra, recreates the heyday of a young Las Vegas, bringing a '60s vibe to the Feinstein's/54 Below stage with music, comedy, and uniquely told stories about a bygone era. His authentic, big band arrangements of everyone's favorite songs from the vast catalogs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and Sammy Davis, Jr, include such celebrated classics as "I've Got You Under My Skin," "Fly Me To The Moon," "Ain't That A Kick In The Head," "That's Amore," "What Kind Of Fool Am I," "Mack The Knife," "Splish Splash", "My Way," "New York, New York," and many more.
Joining Poretz on stage is an all-star band led by drummer extraordinaire Michael Berkowitz, a Broadway and concert veteran who has served as musical director for Marvin Hamlisch and Liza Minnelli, among many others. Richard Nelson Hall, Poretz's long-time pianist and a fellow alum of "The Rat Pack Is Back," will serve as musical director and conductor.
Jonathan Poretz in When Vegas Was VEGAS! plays Feinstein's/54 Below (254 West 54th Street) on Tuesday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. There is a $35-$45 cover charge and $25 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at www.54Below.com. Tickets on the day of performance after 4:00 are only available by calling (646) 476-3551.
MORE ABOUT Jonathan Poretz
Some say he was born with a microphone in his hand. That would explain why Pacific Coast Jazz artist Jonathan Poretz is so comfortable performing his brand of great American standards to audiences large and small. Whether appearing in an intimate club or a large outdoor venue, Jonathan brings an electric energy to any stage he's on, a talent he's been cultivating since his early teens, when he sang in bands featuring jazz giants Charlie Shavers, Snooky Young, Chuck Wayne, Joe Puma, and others in his home town of New York City.
Over the past decade Poretz has had the honor of portraying Frank Sinatra in a series of tribute shows in the US and Europe, including the long-running Las Vegas production of "The Rat Pack Is Back."
He has written and starred in a variety of music and comedy shows, including "Sex, Swagger & Swing: Sinatra and Darin in the Concert That Never Was" and "When Vegas Was VEGAS!"
His latest jazz CD is scheduled for release later this year.
